Unfortunately when clients don't obey court orders and are not honest with their attorneys there is little we can do for them but must withdraw our representation. It usually results in a waste of our time and their money.

very satisfied

I was very satisfied with Marilyn’s representation of me in a difficult family law suit, which she handled very effectively. Judges and opposing counsel displayed a lot of respect for her. In my estimation, that respect was very well deserved – and such respect also seemed to increase h...er effectiveness in court. I hope that I will never again need a family law attorney to represent me in court – but if I do, I plan to call Marilyn.

Priceless

Through out the duration of my trial, Mrs. Longwell maintain a professional attitude, very skillful in her application of the law. She not only knew and upheld the laws pertaining to my case, but she maintain the spirit of the law. What made Mrs. Longwell so different from the other attorneys, she d...isplayed a genuine and warm disposition. All of those qualities played an important part in making our case successful as well as minimizing the sting of such an sensitive case. Although I will probably spend the rest of my life in her debt, it was truly worth it. She has an wonderful staff that compliments her. Mrs. Longwell helped restored the dignity that had been taken away from me not only as a mother but also a woman. I never really expressed to her the depth of my appreciation, words cannot express how I truly feel. If you ever have an opportunity to work with Mrs.Long well, you will also discover a true GEM.

The Consumer's Ally - Small Job, Big Satisfaction!

It may seem like a small thing to ask of a highly rated attorney like Marilyn, but I was incensed. When my car was illegally parked by a theater valet service in Chicago, I was issued a costly parking ticket and sought redress from the theater personnel and their contract valet service. Both business...es were unresponsive to my repeated verbal and written requests to address this problem, much less pay the costly fine that they incurred (which, by the way, kept increasing as time went by with the ticket unpaid). I'm sure these business owners assumed I would eventually just eat the cost...after all, I was one individual against two businesses and what chance did I stand? After months of frustration trying to deal with them on my own, I became very annoyed with the consumer brush off. I could have paid the ticket, but there was a principle involved and I chose to fight back against these irresponsible businesses, hoping that if I was successful, they might think twice about their parking policy and about stiffing the next guy. It was then that I contacted Marilyn Longwell for legal advice and assistance. Throughout the process, she was personable, professional, and patient. She understood the position I was in and the principle behind it and became my ally. She was knowledgeable and persistent in her efforts to resolve this issue on my behalf, ultimately achieving a positive outcome for me in a short period of time. In addition to the fact that I am delighted with the service she provided, I have great satisfaction knowing that the two businesses involved did not get away with stiffing this consumer. Thank you, Marilyn!

Responsive, Caring, Knowledgeable

Marilyn provided excellent representation for me. She is knowledgeable about the law and the court system, and guided me in a sensitive and sensible manner. In a divorce, emotions can run high and Marilyn remained steady and logical which helped me keep calm and focused. Marilyn is responsive, an...d as a person who also represents children (as well as divorce litigants) she is especially attuned to the needs of children in divorce. She will think through all of the aspects of your cases - even matters you hadn't considered. On a personal note, she is a genuinely interesting person who is well-traveled, well-read, and who has a great sense of humor. Trust her- she's terrific!

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
