Joan and Nick helped me get back my security deposit, plus a good amount of damages, from my nasty former landlord. (As a bonus, he also got stuck with a large attorney’s fee bill, so he paid for the great representation I got from Joan and Nick!) They really know how to use Chicago’s tenant ordinan...ce to get results for their clients. Another nice thing: I never once had to go to court or do anything other than send some docs and review/sign some stuff; they took care of everything with no hassle for me.

I had a difficult options regarding my lease and the sale of the building i resided in. Not knowing my rights in this situation. Joan found a solution that allowed me to break my lease and not pay anything except my prorated rent. Moved from the East Coast to Chicago and found a place with less due diligence than we should have given the process. Issues with the apartment: - Security door malfunctioned - Callbox wasn't operational - Mailbox didn't lock - Common spaces weren't maintained (much less cleaned, occasionally) -... Neighbors informed that heating issues occurred the prior winter - Among others Joan was responsive and incorporated our input and documentation into a letter citing violations of the Chicago RLTO and related historical precedents. This resulted in the termination of the lease, with no ultimate cost to us, due to our settlement conditions. I hope I don't have to give Joan a call again any time soon, but if and when I do, I know she has the experience and know-how to ensure my rights as a Chicago tenant as protected.
