Jeffrey Daniel Cohn

Jeffrey has been practicing law since 2017 and is an accomplished and zealous immigration attorney. He was selected as a 2024 Rising Star in Immigration by Super Lawyers, part of Thomson Reuters. This peer designation is awarded only to a select number of accomplished attorneys in each state. The Rising Stars selection process takes into account peer recognition, professional achievement in legal practice, and other cogent factors. To be eligible for inclusion in Rising Stars, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less. No more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state are named to the Rising Stars list.

Jeffrey has extensive experience with a broad range of immigration case processes (e.g., adjustment of status, asylum (and withholding of removal and deferral of removal under the Convention Against Torture), bond hearings, citizenship/naturalization, deferred inspections, removal defense (immigration court hearings), U visas, etc.). He is highly skilled at affirmative and defensive immigration case processes, and especially enjoys defending his clients in immigration court (detained and non-detained). Jeffrey also has substantial experience handling matters before various federal immigration agencies, including Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) (within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)); and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) and the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) (within the Department of Justice (DOJ)). He pragmatically applies his previous criminal law experience to his current practice area, as criminal law and immigration law often intersect in what is known colloquially as “crimmigration.” Jeffrey uses his Spanish language skills to communicate with his clients and explain complex legal matters. He prides himself on his attention to detail and excellent and prompt client communications. Jeffrey is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA), American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), AILA Chicago Chapter, Chicago Bar Association (CBA), Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA), and the Decalogue Society of Lawyers. In 2023, he conducted a CLE Seminar on “Best Practices Before the Chicago Immigration Court” in conjunction with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS).

Jeffrey earned a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign prior to graduating from DePaul University College of Law in 2016. In law school, he earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Award® for excellence in the study of Immigration Law & Policy, and a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law. Jeffrey is admitted to practice in Illinois and is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
