Elizabeth Marie Streefland

Elizabeth M. Streefland is the founder of the Streefland Law Firm in Minneapolis, a boutique law practice which focuses on U.S. immigration law.  Known for her warm and caring style, Elizabeth represents businesses within a range of industries including engineering, ranching, LED lighting, business and educational software, and nonprofits.  Elizabeth also devotes a portion of her practice to representing families and individuals navigate the often-onerous field of immigration.  Elizabeth has over twenty years of experience in immigration law, during which time she has experienced how the ebb and flow of trends in the United States and abroad affects her clients. Her deep practical experience coupled with her passion to push the law forward makes her a tireless and effective counselor and advocate for her clients and for national immigration reform.  Elizabeth also has a strong interest in the balance of privacy law which has sparked her to successfully litigate claims under the Freedom of Information Act on behalf of her clients. Elizabeth is a popular speaker and advocate for immigrants and immigration reform and is an active member of the Minnesota/Dakota’s chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Elizabeth spent a week volunteering as an attorney at the immigration detention center in Dilley, Texas in June 2015 representing Central American women and children were who detained by the US government after fleeing persecution in their home countries.  She considers these women to be courageous in spirit and worthy of our support and respect.  

Elizabeth loves to travel and has visited many countries, often as a result of meeting someone someone from a particular country.   She has a special pull towards Africa, a place of great beauty and of great heartache.  After climbing Kilimanjaro in 2015 with her brother, she is contemplating where her next adventure in Africa will be.  

Elizabeth is a lover of the arts in all of its forms -- especially music and theater -- and believes we all have creative energy and a story to tell.  She loves reading, running, cooking, and playing Words with Friends.   And walking her new puppy.  

Elizabeth graduated from the College of St. Benedict in 1987 with a Bachelor’s degree in English. After teaching English for several years, Elizabeth graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in 1994 with her Juris Doctor.   She is Elizabeth is licensed to practice in the State of Minnesota, U.S. District Court of Minnesota, the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
