I Knew with the very first phone call that Nick Gegan was the Attorney I had been searching for & greatly needed. With sincerity, attention & patience he inquired about my charges in detail & more thorough than any other attorney I have ever spoke with. Too many times I’ve hired council in the past that could talk a good game creating false hopes to string you along, submitting weak motions that get denied; appearing aggressive & diligent than become softer than a Twinkie filling as soon as the first bargain is on the table, or the just plain apathetic & lazy that is likely capable of more but wants to move on to the next. Planting doubt, creating fear of the risk & uncertainty of possible outcome if you continue, knowing that you are in between a rock & a hard place, feeling pressure, or the unprepared & unskilled thetis limited or just not qualified for trial, Nick however a skillful, capable & talented professional. Nick was quick to obtain any and all information, material & evidence available. Throughout my case Nick showed a genuine personal interest/concern for me. I didn’t feel like i was just another paycheck. Nick’s communication and responsiveness is above and beyond. Nick listens to & remembers your goals and their importance to you, doesn’t just dismiss them. At my first appearance it immediately became apparent that Gegan was very well regarded in the courtroom, Unmistakably respected by the judge, prosecutor, admin, the ENTIRE courtroom. You can tell by his demeanor in the courtroom that there isn’t an intimidated bone in his body when dealing with the prosecutor & judge. Nick Gegan is a highly respected seasoned veteran in the courtroom & it shows. In court he didn’t conceal or keep back anything discussed with the prosecutor, & provided clarity. The judge excepted plea without hesitation, question, altering/addition to the stipulations of agreement made between Nick & the prosecutor. The deal Nick worked out was unbelievable! I feel Nick has a true & complete understanding of how important reputation & character are to a mans success. I think this may have something to do with why he is consistently effective & efficient. That; & pure natural ability, only wish I would have learned of Nick years ago. Undoubtedly the best criminal defense attorney in the Midwest! One of Nick's motto's is "A CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY THAT WON'T JUST HOLD YOUR HAND AND PLEAD YOU GUILTY." Yet this is exactly what I experienced when retaining Nick to help "fight" my case. My case was the first and last I've ever had, so if I wasn't able to beat the case I was already aware of the... first offenders program I would get as a part of my plea deal. This plea deal is something I could've received without having to pay Nick, so I was expecting some aggressiveness to get better than that when retaining Nick. He must've left it in the arena back when Nick allegedly cage fought. The only thing Nick was aggressive about was getting his payment from me, he even went as far as to "forget" that I made a payment to him and asked me for another one. I had to bring up my bank statements just to prove to him that I paid him. Upon first meeting with Nick, he was positive that I would get my charges drop and started listing off avenues he would take to do that. After weeks pass by and its already to late to retain another lawyer, his attitude immediately changed. Now he was doing what seemed to be the bare minimum. I wasn't able to meet with him and the prosecutor, and when I mentioned to him that I would potentially like to fight the case further he got mad and told me "What don't you get?" As if it was out of his job requirements to help his clients to the best of his ability. RATING EXPLAINED: I decided to give Nick two stars. One star is for the more affordable cost he provided but this seemed to reflect his work ethic as it was very poor. The second star is for basically just doing what lawyers do, handle my paperwork, get evidence, yet this was also just the bare minimum. Overall, I would not recommend Nick Gegen to anyone. If you are reading this and in search of a lawyer, keep looking. Talk with a professional on your situation, you may even be better off with saving money and retaining a public defender like I should've done.
