Michael Gerald Halvorson

Michael G. Halvorson was born in 1974 in Fargo, North Dakota. He graduated high school in 1993 and went to Concordia in Moorhead for his undergraduate studies. At Concordia, Mike played football and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology in 1997. Mike subsequently attended Hamline Law School during which time he had the opportunity to clerk for the Dakota County Public Defender’s Office, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office and a private construction litigation firm. In 2001, Mike obtained his juris doctorate and was admitted to the Minnesota State and Federal Bars. In 2002, Mike joined Johnson, Larson, Peterson & Halvorson as an associate and was made partner in 2008. In 2015, Mike joined his longtime friend and former teammate at Concordia to form Halvorson Langemo & Paschke.

Over his years of practice Mike has gained valuable experience in many areas of the law but has found that he most enjoys “leveling the playing field” for those who would not otherwise be treated fairly by the legal process or their insurance companies unless they have a good attorney on their side. Based on that theme, Mike has developed a real affinity for helping individuals and families with the following cases:

• Securing payments totaling just under $1.4 million for the family of man killed in a collision with semi.
• Obtaining settlements and awards totaling $229,000 for a pedestrian that was injured when a neighbor’s car unexpectedly took off.
• Securing payments totaling almost $400,000 for a woman who lost a leg while riding on a motorcycle.
• Obtaining an award for a local farmer for hail damage on his farm in an amount which was four times greater than an insurance company’s highest offer.
• Securing payments for a family who lost their home in a fire which was $50,000 higher than the insurance company’s initial offer.
• Obtaining an award for a couple who lost their home in a fire which was almost $52,000 more than the insurance company’s highest offer.
• Securing $109,000 in payments for a woman who suffered a cervical disc herniation in two vehicle collision.
• Securing payments totaling $560,000, including $225,000 beyond available insurance, for the wife of a man killed in a collision.
• Obtained court order securing bodily injury coverage after an extended motion practice battle with the auto insurance company over several asserted policy exclusions.
• Assisted in obtaining previously denied coverage under an accidental dismemberment policy for a client who developed an infection that led to the amputation of both legs.
• Secured a settlement of $400,000 for the death of the father after insurance company denied $250,000 of coverage.

In addition to the focused areas outlined above, Mike continues to handle complex divorce matters and provides alternative dispute resolution services as mediator, arbitrator and early neutral evaluator under Rule 114.

Mike is a member of the Tenth District Bar Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Minnesota Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice, the American Arbitration Association Panel of Arbitrators and the Wright County Volunteer Legal Clinic Program. In addition, Mike is an appointed ethics complaint investigator for the 18th District Ethics Committee and he serves on the Wright County Early Neutral Evaluation steering committee.

In his free time, Mike enjoys running, sports, movies, traveling and spending time with his wife and children.
