David Philip Best

As an Airman in the U.S. Air Force, David learned what integrity, service, and excellence are all about. As a family law attorney, he brings a similar commitment to each of his clients.

David guides his clients through their unique family law case in a way they can understand and appreciate, while fully protecting their legal rights.

David exclusively handles cases involving: divorce, custody, parenting time, child support, property division, restraining orders, and post-decree modifications and enforcement. He also serves as a neutral mediator, where he seeks to help clients resolve their differences in an amicable way, and he teaches poverty law at the University of St. Thomas.

Prior to starting his own law firm, David worked as a Certified Student Attorney in the Human Services Division of the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office, where he handled more than 200 child support or paternity hearings.

This experience in court - where he aggressively represented the interests of the state and the rights of mothers and fathers to receive child support - gave David the confidence to start his own family law practice in 2014.​​

Since starting his own firm, David has handled many complex domestic litigation cases, including business valuations, extremely high-conflict custody disputes, parental kidnapping and alienation, and complex financial disputes.

Before entering the legal profession, David served as an ordained pastor in the Christian Reformed Church. Following his service in the Air Force, David earned his Master’s Degree in Theology at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California. He went on to serve as a pastor at a small church in Lincoln, Nebraska that was committed to serving those on the margins of society. As an attorney David regularly volunteers his time serving those who cannot afford an attorney, through legal aid organizations.

When he’s not practicing law, David enjoys skiing, hiking, and camping with his family... and just chilling out.
