I have represented thousands of clients in criminal cases ranging from misdemeanor drug possession to first degree intentional homicide. I specialize in defending clients facing serious and complex charges, including sexual assault, large scale drug cases, and homicide. In that capacity I regularly litigate cases involving DNA, computer forensic evidence, cell phone forensic searches, child forensic interviews, and expert medical testimony. I am an aggressive pretrial litigator and have successfully suppressed evidence and statements in a diverse range of cases including drug possession/delivery, sexual assault, bank robbery, weapons charges, theft, homicide, and OWI. I have had multiple clients acquitted in serious felony cases, including not guilty verdicts for first degree intentional homicide, and serious sexual assaults. I am the only attorney in the state to obtain a not guilty verdict in a Len Bias drug delivery homicide since our law was changed in 2007. I've tried dozens of cases in nearly every area of criminal law including property crimes, OWI/traffic offenses, domestic violence, DNR/natural resource offenses, drug & pharmaceutical offenses, sex crimes, and crimes against children. While a substantial portion of my practice involves representing clients facing decades behind bars, I handle the full spectrum of criminal defense including OWI/drunk driving, misdemeanor and felony drug possession, domestic violence, probation and extended supervision revocations, juvenile defense, and DNR/natural resources offenses.
Each client's circumstances are unique, so I take an individualized approach to resolving a case in the manner that best suits a client's goal. While many attorneys describe themselves as "aggressive," I prefer to describe my approach as "intelligent." Some cases call for aggressive litigation, while a softer approach is best for others. Approaching a case intelligently means that an attorney will know what is most important to his client and develop a unified plan designed to achieve this goal. I get to know each client as a human being first, then work with them to resolve a case in the manner that best suits their interests.

Thank you, Chris!
I hired Chris for a recent criminal case. I was more than a little worried about the whole situation going into our consultation, but Chris instantly put me at ease with his expertise on the matter as well as his familiarity with dealing with similar cases. Upon hiring him, Chris quickly got to work ...
"Chris is one of the most analytical and scholarly criminal defense attorneys in southwest Wisconsin. He made his early-career reputation as an assistant public defender for many years and in the Mitrel Anderson homicide trial in particular, achieving a not guilty jury verdict on a charge which would have put the defendant away for 30+ years. Now in private practice, he is able to bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to his private clients' cases."
"I've had the privilege of knowing Chris since law school. He's a phenomenal attorney--tenacious, hard-working, highly intelligent, and he truly cares about the people he represents. If I was ever charged with a crime, he'd be one of the first attorneys I'd call."
