Attempted homicide charges dropped

I was charged with first degree attempted intentional homicide. While it was clear violence against women Act fraud, I knew I couldn't receive a fair trial in Columbia County. Especially after the manner in which the mistrial was approved, over defense's objections & with a suppressed eyewitness stat...ement. Because of Mr Ruby's experience & professionalism the charges were dropped on double jeopardy grounds, 5th ammendment violation. Mr Ruby's argument was so sound the attorney general didn't even request an appeal to the State supreme court. I highly recommend Mr Ruby for a trial attorney or appellate arguments. You will not find a better attorney willing to fight for you to the bitter end. Thank you Mr Ruby

Unconditionally Recommend Cole Ruby

I would recommend Cole Ruby without a single reservation. I hired Mr. Ruby to defend me against false accusations a woman made against me after a night out drinking. The case took 18 months. The case was really won by Mr. Ruby’s hard work, investigation, attention to detail, and ability to think o...n his feet. Throughout the 18 months, Mr. Ruby kept his comments based on what he knew at the time. He made sure I knew what each hearing would entail. He also made sure we had a wrap up session even on the smallest hearing so I knew how he thought it went. He is a straight shooter, which is what you need when you are trying to stay sane waiting throughout the long process. There were quite a few scheduling issues which made this a very long waiting period. Whenever I reached out to Mr. Ruby with a question or a status request, I had a response in no longer than one business day. I had to go to trial and this is when I found out just how much work Mr. Ruby had really been doing. The case came down to a he said/she said case. He had talked to all witnesses he planned to call before the trial. Mr. Ruby’s opening argument was clear and concise. It showed that he had a very well thought out plan on what he was going to show during the case, even without any idea as to what the woman was going to testify. She had only made two statements that we could get a hold of. Mr. Ruby’s knowledge of those statements as well as the physical evidence was flawless. He was always paying attention and knew how to counter act each statement made by the witnesses. He showed all the weaknesses in the “victim’s” statements without looking hostile towards her. His knowledge of the law and trial procedures was extensive. Mr. Ruby turned this he said/she said case into a case of lack of physical evidence. Every time the state had testimony that was not consistent with the physical evidence, Mr. Ruby found a way to show it and had evidence or testimony ready to back it up. I knew we were in a good place after the first day of the trial when the district attorney asked us to settle. Mr. Ruby was very honest about the settlement offer and that juries can be very unpredictable. I made the decision to go forward and get all the evidence to the court and jury so that I would have no criminal record. I had to testify on the second day. Mr. Ruby had given me a list of questions he was going to ask. He made sure it was all inclusive so that I was ready for any question the district attorney could ask. Testifying when you know your future is on the line is stressful whether you are prepared or not but having that list of questions made it a lot easier. I wasn’t flustered by any questions the district attorney asked because of Mr. Ruby’s preparation. The district attorney made one last attempt to get something to stick by using his closing statement in a way that didn’t follow the jury instructions or the charges. Mr. Ruby objected. Then after the district attorney’s closing argument was complete, Mr. Ruby changed his closing argument to address the issue and did so in a way that used the district attorney’s statement against him which helped our case. He never had to fight the objection that was sustained because he fought it using his knowledge of the law and his ability to be versatile and adapt to the situation quickly. My case went well and I was found not guilty of all charges. That is mostly due to the hard work and dedication that Mr. Ruby showed in handling the case. If you are in need of an honest, hard working, and detail oriented attorney who will not pull any punches, I suggest you meet with Cole Ruby and see for yourself how knowledgeable he is on the law.

Impecable Honesty, Yet Hard-Hitting Fact-Finder

Mr. Ruby defended my brother since 2011 when he was brought up on some very serious charges. While we always believed in my brother, it was hard to find some in his small town that wasn't part of the witch hunt against him. We were blessed and lucky that Mr. Ruby took the case. From day one, he we...nt to work trying to get to the truth—not politics or hidden agendas as it seems some related to the case may have had. When my brother felt hopeless, Mr. Ruby did what he could to encourage him and keep him going. Throughout the time of my brother's incarceration, our family suffered 2 huge losses--one being our father--the one who my brother leaned on the most. It took a lot for our family to hold my brother up after that when there were days we could barely do it. Mr. Ruby didn't sugar-coat anything--he told us we were in for a fight, but he was more than ready to battle. And battle he did! I had the honor of exchanging e-mails, phone calls and seeing him defend my brother in court. He is professional, genuine, does not let his emotions get to him and really puts in time and effort to uncover the truth. Well, our story has a happy ending: My brother was found NOT GUILTY on ALL charges thanks to Mr. Ruby!!! I know we will never be able to repay him for what he has done, but I will do all I can to sing his praises. If you, or a loved one, find yourself in trouble, it is Mr. Ruby that you want by your side. -Crystal

Excellent Attorney!

Cole was hired to defend a man accused of 4 charges of child abuse. These were very serious charges with a total amount of possible prison time of 80 years. Cole was very responsive and dedicated to this case. He listened to everything and investigated very thoroughly. His court presence was pheno...minal. He fought hard and analyzed ever angle and new the law well. He proved the defendant to be not guilty in all counts. I would recommend him !

Brilliant defense in an OWI and probation revocation case!

We had a very complicated and seemingly hopeless situation when a family member suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome was arrested for an OWI and probation revocation for a prior incident related to the PTSD. We were told by just about everyone that there was no way to get around the pro...bation revocation, and this would have meant that the defendant would have lost the good jobs he'd held, one for more than 20 years and the other for more than 5 years. It seemed that our lives would be completely destroyed, and it was heartbreaking because the defendant was, for the most part, a very solid member of society. He had just made a couple of unfortunate mistakes due to issues related to past military service incidents. Cole Ruby jumped right on the ball with this case and was able to find an acceptable alternative to probation revocation, and did so brilliantly. He got the D.A. to jump on board with his alternative proposal and the D.A. recommended to the probation authorities that revocation be dropped, and it worked! Cole Ruby also discreetly helped us to find an alcohol treatment program for this family member. THe family member successfully completed this program and was able to return to both of his good jobs, better off for having kicked the alcohol habit and in better control of his PTSD. In short, we got our lives back because of the efforts of Cole Ruby. I recommend him very highly and commend him on his reasonable fees and his go-getter attitude toward his work. He did a wonderful job and has a well-deserved good reputation in our community.
