Following my divorce the child placement we originally had planned was not working out. My son was having a difficult time in school and showing signs of neglect. She educated about all the laws, rules, and regulations that were out there and while overwhelming at times, it was important to know and I appreciated her taking the time to explain those to me. Her support staff was also wonderful. When I first met Mari, this was the phrase she used and it stuck with me ... "The path of least resistance". Not a phrase you might hear from a lawyer, especially when hiring a lawyer is all about bettering your odds to "win". But let's face it, divorce, and court in general, is unhealthy and unnatu...ral. Anything you can do to make it less painful is appreciated! While I could tell right away Mari would fight for me like a dog on a bone and certainly had the knowledge and the wherewithal to do so, she also understood that my ex-husband and I had thus far never hired a lawyer for our disputes, not even for the initial divorce. Everything was done amicably on our own. However at this 7- year mark we have reached an impasse on certain subjects and I needed to get professional help. Mari came highly recommended from a trusted friend. She instantly made me feel like she was my biggest fan and my advocate. After she looked over my paperwork we had a brief discussion and then she basically did what I call "read my mail". That means she has the ability to read a lot into the situation very intellectually but very precisely without even knowing all the details. She was spot-on! She wrote things down for me, helped me with the wording for documents I needed to write, communicated with me a few times in person and many times over email. Within a few weeks we developed a plan, and executed it and in the long run my ex-husband had to give up alot... but I think he actually felt empowered that he was part of the decision because all of the decisions made sense!
