Jonathan has always been willing to answer my legal questions and offer sound advice when facing any type of situation regarding the law that I'm unfamiliar with or require help with. When I was rear-ended by an inattentive driver and hurt, Jonathan referred me to his associate Benjamin Wagner to handle my automobile accident case. Ben was a great lawyer, and I am so thankful to Jonathan for being so proactive in getting me in touch with his help. I'm healed up and happy with the outcome of my case. I highly recommend Jonathan to anyone seeking legal advice because he is excellent in his area of expertise, and will work diligently to find you help and refer you to another trusted lawyer for help if your case is outside his focused area of practice.

I have worked with Jonathan a couple of times over the past few years, as he has helped me with different legal matters. He has given me sound advice, and pointed me exactly in the right direction. He was very professional and very organized. He asked important questions and was not afraid to tell me the truth about my case, but he did it in a very professional manner and I felt very comfortable working with him. He was also extremely thorough, which I appreciated, because he covered all the bases and left no stone un-turned. This gave me overall confidence with my case, and helped me feel more in control. He is also honest and fair, and it is evident that he is passionate about what he does. I will continue to go to him for relevant legal matters if need be, and I highly recommend him.

Jonathan gave me a lot of legal advice over the last two years which helped me avoid two major conflicts. The great thing about Jonathan is he is honest and direct, he knows the right questions to ask and how to get to the root of things. His caution and thoughtfulness gave me a lot of relief when I was sorting out these issues. He has a keen eye for detail and is as respectful as he is professional. Please excuse me if I don't go into details about my case, but landlord and tenant disputes are frightening, my home was caught in the balance and he was generous with his time and advice.
I saw a negative review of Jonathan on this site and was stunned. This seems like a case of mistaken identity, as the man I spoke to was always up front and honest about details, as well as creative about how to work within the law. He was always quick about getting back to me, generally within 24 hours of emailing or leaving a voice mail.
Jonathan is the sort of man that fights for the little guy. That seems to be what he prides himself in doing and what makes him the happiest. I could tell that he doesn't really do it for the money; he is in law to make sure that those who have little power will not be abused.

I initially hired this attorney for two cases. He was recommended to me after I requested an attorney for a Small Claims case from the Wisconsin Bar Association. He quoted me a price of $90 for the first visit, which would be the cost after the Bar Referral discount to $20 for the first half hour. I did pre-pay for both cases.
He spent two hours interrogating me about a relatively minor case, involving a mover who broke thousands of dollars of my furniture during a move, and whom I refused to pay for the move until my breakage was paid, and was now suing me for the cost of the move and was refusing to pay for breakage.
I was surprised and did not expect such a negative hour with this attorney, and in fact, it turned into two hours! This attorney said that he was interrogating me so brutally because he "wanted to see if (I) would be a good witness, and so far, (I) wouldn't". Appearing as a witness on either case was highly unlikely to occur, since I was asking for him to negotiate a settlement on both. I asked him to stop being so hard on me, on several occasions, and he wouldn't . He then attempted to charge me more than the $90 agreed upon, for doing this to me longer than an hour. He said he would give me "a discount", but I insisted that the agreed upon price be charged, and he did give in.
He then took no action on either case for two months. None. When I told him that I would prefer not to pay for the move, he went off on me and insulted me terribly, then quit on the Friday prior to the Monday AM hearing while I begged him not to. He also quit on my other case, just because he was so angry that I had told him that I did not want to have to pay for the cost of the move on this case. He said it would be impossible not to pay for the move, that I would have to under the law. He then told me, and also sent out a final letter, telling me that I didn't need to attend the Monday hearing, because the law did not require attendance as long as I submitted a letter stating that I opposed the assertions of the mover in this case.
I sought out another attorney, who thankfully agreed to meet with me on late Friday afternoon. He accepted my case, luckily, and told me that Attorney Gruhl was mistaken about my not needing to attend the Monday hearing. He said it is a common misperception, but that if I didn't show up, the case would be automatically defaulted as a win for the mover.
He accompanied me to the hearing, and in fact there were several other cases that day that were automatically defaulted as a loss when people didn't show up for the hearing.
My new attorney eventually settled the case for me, with me not only not having to pay for the move, but receiving an additional $1500 paid to me for breakage.
This attonrey also no longer works in New Berlin, as is shown as his address here. He is sharing a basement office in Glendale, WI, along with his brother, Edward Gruhl. I was able to get some, but not all, of my payment to Attorney Gruhl refunded to me.
