Car Accident 33%

I represent people injured in automobile, truck, motorcycle and bicycle accidents. The vast majority of cases settle favorably without need to file suit. When I do have to file suit, the vast majority of those cases settle favorably before trial.

Divorce and Separation 33%

Divorces from begining to end, using traditional litigation model, cooperative divorce, or the collaborative process. I also handle post-divorce matters, including modification of support or placment, and contempt matters. I do many divorce appeals, both for my clients and for the clients of other family lawyers, throughout the state.

Appeals 20%

I represent both appellants and respondents in state and federal court in civil and family law appeals. I have been successful before the Wisconsin Supreme Court, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, and the United States 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. I clerked for the Chief Judge of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals for the first two years after graduating from law school.

Real Estate 14%

I do both transactional real estate law (helping people buy and sell real estate) and real estate litigation. For over 20 years, I did all of the defense work for the largest real estate broker in the State of Wisconsin, so I also know real estate brokerage law, and have successfully represented real estate licensees before the local board of realtors, as well as in licensing matters before the State of Wisconsin.

"I had the opportunity to work on the opposing side of Attorney Tess-Mattner a number of years ago on a divorce case. He was a strong advocate for his client, but was also fair and reasonable. His priority was always the best interests of his client. Yet, he is extremely fair and professional. He has a great dry wit that helps to diffuse the tension of a legal proceeding. His command of the law is incomparable. He is the man we look to when we want to refer our clients to an attorney for an appeal. We always feel comfortable that they will receive the best legal representation possible."

"I endorse this lawyer wholeheartedly. I have known this attorney professionally for many years online on a state bar listserv. Attorney Tess-Mattner has always given well researched listserv responses on appeals and family law. He is extraordinarily qualified to advocate on behalf of litigants. I've referred people to him and they've been very pleased with his work."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
