I hired Mr. Hansen for my OWI case and it was one of the most stressful experiences of my life. I took a full day off work, drove 4 hours, and lost pay just to show up to a court date his office never told me was canceled. When my license was suddenly revoked, I was told I was on my own because he on...
On 11-14-2025, Lideya Matthew Trexel was arrested and charged with several charges, including Child Endangerment and OWI 1st Offense. The Child Endangerment charge was based on her operating her motor vehicle while intoxicated, while having her grade school child with her in the vehicle. On 11-15-2025, Lideya Matthew Trexel had her Initial Appearance before the Iowa District Court for Des Moines County. Her court appointed attorney was also present at this hearing, at which time Lideya Matthew Trexel demanded a preliminary hearing that was set for 11-25-2025. On 11-17-2025, Lideya Matthew Trexel contacted our office about representing her on the above criminal charges. After checking the record of the criminal charges, our office then communicated with Lideya Matthew Trexel about what our required retainer would be to defend her on the above criminal charges, and that upon receipt of the retainer, we would enter our appearance and waive the preliminary hearing. On 11-19-2025, our office received the required retainer from the Defendant, and the Entry of Appearance was then filed on 11-20-2025 along with a waiver of the preliminary hearing. In her review, Lideya Matthew Trexel claims that when she found out that her license was “suddenly revoked”, that Attorney Hansen refused to handle the DOT case, and that she was advised that she’d have to handle the DOT “appeal” herself. To the contrary, our office was not advised until 12-5-2025 that Lideya was hiring another attorney to handle her case, and her father then advised me that his daughter had to file an appeal based on a DOT revocation notice that his daughter had just received. This was the first time we were aware of the revocation notice, or that Lideya Matthew Trexel was working on an appeal. After Attorney Hansen was retained to represent Lideya Matthew Trexel, she was advised about the TRL requirements (to obtain her SR-22 insurance; have an interlock installed; and then obtain a TRL from the local DMV office in West Burlington). When Lideya advised our office on 12-5-2025 that she wanted to terminate our services, we were also advised that Lideya had already obtained her SR-22 insurance, but for unknown reasons, she chose not to obtain an interlock devise for her vehicle to obtain her TRL. If Lideya would have followed our instructions on this issue, she would not have had to file an appeal with the DOT. In her review, Ms. Trexel also claims that she went to her scheduled preliminary hearing on 11-25-2025, not knowing that it had been “cancelled.” That is an incorrect statement. As stated above, Ms. Trexel was present at the time of her Initial Appearance with her first attorney, and demanded a preliminary hearing at that time. However, she was also notified that Attorney Hansen had waived the preliminary hearing when he filed his Entry of Appearance on 11-20-2025. While Lideya Matthew Trexel may have forgotten about the earlier filing of the Entry of Appearance and waiver of preliminary hearing, she could have simply contacted our office before taking off work and driving to a hearing that had already been waived five days before. This is the first online review I've written, but I was so very impressed by the attorney Peter Hansen that I wanted to post something. I don't have much of a stomach for lawyers or litigation but I was injured and got referred through two different friends. The preparation for my case was amazing. T...

Did more for me than even my closest family or friends. Hansen was there for me and never left me high and dry. I needed these people and they came into my life at the right moment. I was lost and would have given up but they lit the fire back in me and I started to believe again. I'll remember them ...

Attention to details is one of the things that stood out to me the most. Mr. Peter is really quiet to the point of being kinda awkward but definitely knows what he is doing. I rate this office highly.
"Peter and I have had a professional relationship for several years. We bounce ideas off of each other and he’s extremely versed in the field of criminal defense. I refer all criminal matters I don’t handle to Mr. Hansen and I highly recommend him for felony matters."
