Eric D. Tindal was born in Iowa City, Iowa and was raised in Kalona, Iowa. While still in high school Eric joined the United States Army Reserves and he served until 1999. While in the military Eric was trained as a Combat Medic and a Respiratory Specialist. From the age of 19 until graduating from law school Eric worked in the intensive care units at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Eric also worked for several years at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa and Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa. This experience proved to be invaluable in working with injured clients and with expert witnesses.
Eric graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law in May 2000 and started the practice of law in September of that year. Eric was a founding member of the law firm Saylor and Tindal; and a founding member of the firm Nidey Erdahl Tindal & Fisher, PLC. During that time Eric practiced in a broad spectrum of areas including but not limited to Criminal Defense in State and Federal Courts, Real Estate, Probate, Workers Compensation, Personal Injury, Tax and Appeals. Eric has had the privilege of representing clients in dozens of jury trials in state and federal court. This has included representation in various serious felony offenses including Murder in the First Degree. The Iowa Bar Association requested that Eric teach new lawyers in Iowa about Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure. Eric is one of 15 attorneys approved as a Criminal Justice Act (CJA) attorney in the Southern District of Iowa, Davenport Division. Eric has also argued before the Supreme Court of Iowa, the Iowa Court of Appeals, and the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.
In 2017 Eric elected to focus his practice in the area of criminal defense, workers compensation, and personal injury. The Law Office of J. Dean Keegan provided Eric with the perfect opportunity to work with attorneys he both respects and enjoys practicing with in a team environment.

Eric Isn’t useful
He is only interested for the money only, he didn’t seem like he was sided on our side he called my son multiple names also he got back to us 2 weeks later.
This review is incorrect. The first date I received a call was on August 22nd, and the call was returned within 24 hours for a consultation. Second, I never called your son a name. Once he started yelling at both of us, I suggested he needed an attitude adjustment or he was going to dig a deeper hole in his case. And finally, I am definitely not all about the money. I am about winning. I will give honest opinions to help us get there, and your son didn't want honesty-he wanted to dictate. Unfortunately, my work does not allow me to simply tell people what they want to hear; often, tough conversations, with unwelcome news, have to be had. My clients deserve honesty about both the law and their case, so that they can make informed decisions about their future. The law is not filled with rainbows and sunshine. I believe my clients deserve the respect of my honesty and objective assessments based upon my education, training, and years of experience, as I would in their shoes. The last part of our discussion was to indicate I had no interest in representing your son; in part, it became apparent to me professional, even if tough, conversations and rational discussions about his case and my advice to achieving the best outcome possible would be next to impossible, as anyone who would treat his mother as he did; believed his tone, volume, and choice of language, particularly in a consultation, was appropriate; and was uninterested in professional advice, even when freely given, was going to make a working relationship nearly impossible. So, I declined to assist your son further.

You get what you pay for
5 stars doesn’t come close to the level of representation and satisfaction I have for Eric. Given the federal Narcotics charges and 27 years I was facing my options were grim. Upon hiring Eric he made no promises yet assured me he was in my corner and would do his absolute best. Throughout the whole...

All talk. Waste of money.
He made claims that he was expensive but worth it. In reality he was unresponsive to requests for information or updates. He was unprepared and unaware of scheduled meetings. He did not take our concerns seriously. He was quick to advise us that we were a lower priority than another case he wa...
I am sorry you were left with this opinion of your experience with us. I strive to meet the needs of every client and exceed their expectations. Unfortunately, achieving those goals are not always possible. I would be happy to communicate with you further offline in order to learn how I could have done better with your situation and try to remedy any shortfalls that may have arisen.
"Eric's knowledge of the law is excellent. This knowledge allows him to successfully argue legal points many attorneys don't even think of."
"Eric Tindal is the type of attorney who will explore every possible defense in your case, and if necessary, he is very capable and experienced when it comes to complex jury trials. If I were ever accused of a crime, I would want Eric on my side."

updated on 03/24/2021This means the attorney did something wrong, but the Bar did not suspend the lawyer. Typically in this case the lawyer's poor behavior is exposed to the public in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.
“These two cases are related in that both involve my failure to timely file briefs. The case can be found at this link: https://www.iowacourts.gov/iowa-courts/supreme-court/supreme-court-oral-argument-schedule/case/20-0005. I have learned from this experience and modified my practice accordingly. This did not involve any form of dishonesty and the court makes clear I am a well qualified trial lawyer.”
