Failure in communication

My Legal Services of Northern Michigan (LSNM) phone intake interview was followed by ONE lengthy phone conversation with Ms Laura George regarding wills and probate, Ladybird deeds, etc. for me and my husband as very elderly senior citizens; after which a formal application, retainer agreement, a...nd an old 2016 law journal article re Ladybird were mailed for me to complete and return. Upon eventual receipt, I corrected numerous errors in the Intake Application form and offered two recent law journal articles addressing issues Ms George voiced over Ladybird. Ms George followed up with a voice mail closing my case because of her preference to not do the Ladybird. Unable to connect with George by phone, I eventually left a voice mail that not doing the ladybird deed was perfectly acceptable with me, but we still needed wills…and did I need to reapply for that document separately. NO return calls from her NOR the LSNM office. I received a somewhat “boilerplate” letter declining to provide us services with NO EXPLANATION AND NO SIGNATURE. WHO wrote or authorized its writing and for WHAT reason bewildered me. I followed up by phoning LSNM at 2:30 pm on a work day. Someone outside the office tasked with answering their phones informed me that while it was normal LSNM Office hours, no one was there. I left another voice mail, no response. I called LSNM IN GAYLORD office and was told there was no requirement to give me a reason for declining to execute documents. I, again via voice mail for Ms George, perplexed by no explanation for rejection of providing us services for which I believed we were qualified as outlined in everything I read of LSNM and documents. To date, no response. As a former paralegal, I can accurately report IMO this as totally unacceptable, unprofessional attorney conduct, which I have never experienced in 80+ years.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
