Dedicated to helping people to stand up to the legal system to protect their rights, freedom, financial security, and reputation.
I developed a passion for criminal law while taking classes with an excellent teacher in law school. Professor David Moran, who has argued on criminal defendants' behalf before the Michigan Supreme Court, first opened my eyes to the massive variety of potential issues present in criminal cases.
I followed this new-found passion for criminal law into a paid internship with the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office in Detroit, where I first started developing my voice in the courtroom. After graduation, I accepted an excellent offer of employment with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, serving the greater Phoenix, Arizona area. In my role as Deputy County Attorney, I handled a wide range of felony and misdemeanor cases. As a prosecutor, I learned about the criminal justice system from top to bottom. More significantly, perhaps, I was indoctrinated into the prosecutor's mindset - the priorities, the challenges, and the inherent strengths of that position.
After prosecuting for three years, I took a position in private practice where I could bring my talents as a trial attorney, negotiator, writer, and issue-spotter to defend the rights of the accused. I now use those skills to help my cients understand the process and options as we go through the often confusing and intimidating criminal justice process.
In two years of practice with my well-respected law firm, I had many successes. I was able to convince prosecutors to fully dismiss serious felony charges against two of my clients. I negotiated many felony charges down to misdemeanor plea offers. In other cases, I was able to negotiate prison plea offers down to probation offers. And in other cases, I was able to negotiate DUI plea offers into lesser, non-DUI offers. In trial, I won some cases outright and earned split jury decisions in others. In each and every case I handled, I treated my clients with the respect they deserved and handled their cases with the care that I would expect if I was in their shoes.
Nevertheless, despite my success as a defense attorney in Arizona, I happily took the opportunity to return to my home state of Michigan to reunite with my wonderful family and friends. Arizona was a nice place to live for awhile, but it doesn't compare to the friendly, down-to-earth people of Michigan or our beautiful lakes and forests. As a lifelong hockey player and outdoor enthusiast, Michigan is truly home to me.
If you are in need of a criminal attorney, you need someone honest, intelligent, aggressive, tactful, and - most of all - devoted. I am that attorney. Let me be yours.
