Patrick and Michael worked on my divorce. During that time we added a stipulation that my ex-wife couldn't move in any new boyfriends to the house where out daughter lives for 6 months post divorce. The term Michael used was familiar. I asked if it was supposed to be familial. He said no, the Michiga...n courts read "familiar" as Family. I asked if he was sure and he said he was. I had to file a motion because my ex-wife moved someone into the home almost immediately and was asking our daughter to call him dad etc. When we got to court the judge asked why I used the word "familiar" and I said my attorney did for the reasons listed above. She said "if you used any word that means family I would rule in your favor but at this point the child is familiar with the boyfriend". When I called Patrick about this, because of course I had paid extra to have that motion drafted, he told me that judges are unpredictable and there's no way they could have known. Fast Forward and after another period where my ex wife married and then divorced that boyfriend, it turns out he is an abuser and my daughter was subjected to that abuse and will live with that forever. Familiar. Michael is now a judge.
