I was born in Mason, Michigan, but grew up on the mission field in Puerto Rico. I grew up with a sense that showing compassion and serving others was the greatest goal in life. When I finished my undergraduate degree from Great Lakes Christian College in Ministry, I felt called to do something greater. I attended Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan where I graduated 2nd in my class. After passing the bar, I have pursued a career in law where I can first and foremost help people.
I center my practice around assisting the elderly with their everyday needs. I do everything from basic estate planning, with wills and trusts, to more complicated arrangements, using insurance policies and long term care options. In addition I assist families in getting the elderly and disabled medicaid qualified when they enter the nursing home for a long term stay.

I called and emailed weekly with questions like what was the status, etc. and they were all ignored just an occasional email back from staff stating they were understaffed. Finally after a month he sent an email suggesti...

This guy is a terrible lawyer! Beware: DO NOT HIRE HIM! He drew up a land contract for the sale of my business, charged me for filing a UC-1 with the state, but neglected to do it. It cost me 120,000 because he did not do his job! He is a joke.
This is not accurate at all and Cathy knows it. There was a very public going out of business sale at the store which is around the corner from my office. All of the goods were sold and nothing was left. The purchaser very publicly then declared Bankruptcy. A UC-1 does not help in that situation. With a UC-1 you have to file for the lien then use it. UC-1 only puts a lien on actual personal property left over. We did not file the UC-1 because neither party returned with an inventory list to attach, nor did either party sign the document. Without the list and documents it cannot be filed. My fault, if any exists, was to not call and remind the parties that the transaction was not complete until all the paperwork was done. The file was placed in the file cabinet waiting for them to act.
"I endorse this lawyer. Attorney Higgs is an outstanding attorney with an excepional reputation. He is a strong and zelaous advocate for his cients and a credit to the legal profession. I highly recommend his legal services."
"Mr. Higgs and I practice in a lot of the same areas of law, so I have had the opportunity to review a great many of his responses to Avvo questions. His responses demonstrate a solid understanding of the law and a desire to help people with good, practical solutions to their legal problems. He is a great resource for the Avvo community and I am happy to endorse him and his services. James Frederick"
