Philip D.W. Miller, a partner of Fink Bressack, is a 2011 graduate of Stanford Law School. Philip has represented municipal entities, non-profits, technology companies, financial services firms, investment advisers, venture capital funds, and individuals in securities class actions, shareholder derivative litigation, mergers and acquisitions litigation, LLC and partnership disputes, government enforcement actions, internal investigations, administrative law litigation, and complex commercial matters.
Philip has won cases in Michigan, California, Delaware, and Federal courts, including trial victories for a Napa Valley winery as first chair trial attorney, a telecommunications company in a multi-party contract dispute, and a technology company in a six-week jury trial, resulting in a multi-million dollar award for his client. Philip has also successfully represented clients before the United States Courts of Appeals for the Sixth and Ninth Circuits, including a case resulting in a published opinion in the Class Action Fairness Act context. Among other cases, Philip currently represents the City of Detroit in litigation challenging the United States Census Bureau’s population estimates for the City, which, due to their undercount of Detroit’s population, negatively affect allocations of federal and state funding to the City and its residents.
Philip is a member of the State Bars of Michigan and California. Prior to law school, he earned his M.A.R. in philosophical theology and the philosophy of religion, summa cum laude, from Yale Divinity School and his B.A. in philosophy, summa cum laude, from Denison University where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
