Jacob Nelson Simon

Jacob Simon is licensed to practice law in Michigan and Florida. Mr. Simon's practice focuses predominantly on family law, including divorce, custody, support, property division, and the related financial analyses. He is a guest lecturer for the Matrimonial Practice class at the Michigan State University College of Law, and his writings include a study of the 2017 changes to Michigan law regarding prenuptial agreements, a comparative review of international spousal support policies, a discussion of the inconsistencies between the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act and the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, and an investigation into the legal obligations between unmarried cohabitants.

Before joining the Law Office of Susan E. Cohen, Mr. Simon clerked for the Honorable Daniel V. Zemaitis of the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Michigan, Family Division, and he was an Associate Attorney at Bank | Rifkin.

Mr. Simon obtained his Juris Doctorate Magna Cum Laude from the Michigan State University College of Law, where he was a Dean’s List Scholar every semester, and he obtained Jurisprudence Excellence Awards in Matrimonial Practice and Client Counseling. Mr. Simon received first place awards at the National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition, the International Alternative Dispute Resolution’s Mediation Competition, and the American Bar Association Law Student Division’s Negotiation Competition. Mr. Simon was also an Editor for the Michigan State University International Law Review, and he served as the president of the Jewish Legal Society.

Mr. Simon graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, where he was a member of the Marching Band, the Economics honors society, and the Political Science honors society.
