Reprimand
issued in MI, 1998
updated on 02/12/2016
Reprimand means an attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The State gives the lawyer a public reprimand in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior. Details of the infraction are made part of the public record.
John's comment: “This reprimand was based on a claim that there was a delay in paying another attorney for services rendered to a mutual client. Our bookkeeping policy at the time was to pay fees when the representation was completed, but the attorney expected to be paid monthly. I no longer do any third party billing.”
Suspension issued in MI, 1989
updated on 02/12/2016
Suspension means an attorney lost his or her license to practice law for a period of time. The attorney typically returns to practicing law when the suspension expires.
John's comment: “This was a 30-day suspension which was based solely on my failure to respond in a timely fashion to a complaint which was filed against me with the Bar Association. I was not found guilty of any wrongdoing other than my failure to respond.”
