My lawyer was effective in getting the job done in our very uncomplicated/amicable divorce but was nothing more than that. The retainer wasn't enough although it probably should have been. She did not go above what was needed to get us to our final court date or anything. We had 2 court appearance...s and she was late to both. On the day of our final hearing, she was about an hour and 20 minutes late. There was no apology and her office did not help to provide reassurance that she was in fact going to be there. After her late arrival, I was upset and frustrated. We were signing final divorce settlement paperwork in the hallway at court in a rush to avoid having to be postponed until after the jury trial that was about to happen. That would have cost us both even more money! It was so inappropriate and unprofessional...it should have been done in a relaxed setting where proper review could have occurred for both my ex and myself. It was actually unbelievable.
