Marisa Kay McConnell

Marisa is an attorney at Varnum providing support across several practice areas. As a member of the Litigation Practice Team, she focuses her practice on commercial business disputes and general litigation matters, including contract disputes, business torts and construction or property-related issues. Marisa also supports the firm’s Privacy and Mobility Practice Team, working with children’s privacy issues and helping clients address regulatory and compliance challenges in the evolving mobility sector.

Within the Family Law Practice Team, Marisa has experience with cases involving divorce, custody disputes, minor guardianships, stepparent adoptions and parental rights termination. She is actively building a fertility law practice, offering services related to surrogacy (including independent journeys) and assisted reproduction technologies. Marisa is committed to helping individuals and families of all backgrounds, including those experiencing fertility challenges and members of the LGBTQ+ community, navigate these deeply personal legal processes.

Before joining Varnum, Marisa interned with the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office and the Children’s Law Center in Washington, D.C. While in law school, she represented indigent defendants through Georgetown’s Criminal Justice Clinic and was a member of the Georgetown Law Journal. Her background also includes work with the World Health Organization and service as an AmeriCorps volunteer in Alaska.
