James E. Czarnecki II

James Czarnecki was born and raised in Michigan and earned his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School in 2004. During law school, he distinguished himself academically and as a leader, serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the Moot Court Program.

While pursuing his legal education, James gained valuable experience through internships with the State Appellate Defender Office, the Federal Defender Office, and the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. These diverse experiences provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system from multiple perspectives. After becoming an attorney, he also volunteered with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), further demonstrating his commitment to protecting the constitutional rights of individuals.

For more than two decades, James has dedicated his legal career exclusively to criminal defense. He has represented clients at every stage of the criminal justice process, from pre-charge investigations through trial, sentencing, appeals, and post-conviction proceedings. His extensive experience includes defending clients facing charges ranging from traffic offenses and misdemeanors to the most serious felony cases, including homicide.

James has also successfully represented clients in federal court in complex criminal matters involving conspiracy, alien smuggling, public corruption, union fraud, and other federal offenses. As an accomplished trial attorney, he has litigated numerous jury and bench trials to verdict, obtaining acquittals in both felony and misdemeanor cases involving charges such as criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to murder, domestic violence, assault and battery, and other serious offenses.

In addition to his trial practice, James has secured dismissals through successful preliminary examinations and motions challenging unconstitutional searches and seizures. His appellate advocacy has resulted in convictions being overturned and sentences being reduced or modified in the Michigan Court of Appeals, the Michigan Supreme Court, and the federal courts. His meticulous approach to legal research and case analysis enables him to identify issues that others may overlook, ensuring that every available legal defense is thoroughly explored.
