also known as Jeff Rocker, Jeffrey C. Rocker
Jeff puts his clients at ease and brings comfort in trying times.
A pioneer of casual Mondays (Tuesdays, Wednesdays….), he generally won't wear a suit, unless a judge makes him. Jeff is a one man repository of legal advice, 1980’s film quotes and song lyrics. He rarely takes himself seriously and has found that to be disarming in both business dealings and litigation. When necessary, he is more than capable of making really mean faces – a skill not lost on his kids.
At a full six feet tall, Jeff towers over his partners, and can put that physical presence to good use – at times carrying more than one bank box of files. Jeff is loud, he gets it. It’s probably a Michigan thing.
What you can be sure of is that Jeff routinely guides clients through the complexities of business law, real estate, estate planning and probate with skill and common sense. He has built his practice on relationships and by caring about his clients more than his wardrobe or the view from his office window.
Boring stuff below, if you want to read on.
Jeffrey C. Rocker was born on February 4, 1970 in Mount Clemens, Michigan, and raised in Richmond, Michigan, the son of a residential developer. After completing a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, he continued on to law school at Valparaiso University School of Law. As a young man, Jeff worked in residential construction and real estate development. During his time in law school, Jeff had the opportunity to work as a judicial clerk in Michigan where he was responsible for drafting a number of legal opinions on a wide range of cases. After completing his legal education, Jeff moved to Columbus, Indiana where he met and later married Kimberly L. Lukins-Rocker. In 2004, they were blessed with the birth of their son, Gavin James Rocker. Kim and Jeff welcomed their daughter, Darby Claire, into the world in 2007. Like most parents, Jeff spends a lot of time in auditoriums and bleachers. He doesn't seem to mind.
Since being admitted to the bar, Jeff has been involved in the American Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association (member, the Internet & Electronic Commerce Committee, 2004-present and Delegate since 2016), as well as the Bartholomew County Bar Association (Secretary, 1996-1997, 2009-Present). He has also been involved in a number of community activities including the American Lung Association (Chair of Fundraising, 1996-1997); the Bartholomew County Historical Society (President, 2000-2004); the Bartholomew County Humane Society (Board Member, 2005-2008); and, the Bartholomew County School Foundation (Board Member, 2009-2017) Jeff also held a position on the HomeFederal Bank Trust Advisory Board (now Old National Bank).
In September of 2004, Jeff was the subject of an article in the ABA Journal on Staffing and Productivity. He has been quoted in Lawyer’s Weekly on topics ranging from technology to practical issues facing practicing attorneys. To further assist local businesses, from 1999-2001 Jeff was a contributor to a local business newspaper The Columbus Business Scene where he wrote articles on a wide range of issues facing local businesses.
For many years, Jeff served as an adjunct professor at Indiana University-Purdue University, Columbus (IUPUC) in a number of areas including the Business School, the School of Education and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. During the last several years, Jeff was honored to teach the first group of students to attend the newly formed Masters of Business Administration program from IUPUC. Teaching gave way in the face of children. Turns out, it isn't really all that different.
Jeff focuses his practice on business law, commercial and residential real estate, and estate planning/probate. He feels very strongly that in order to better serve clients, attorneys must focus on learning the nuances of a small number of practice areas.
