Female (me)... First time hiring a lawyer to assist with a family law case already underway. 1. In person meeting on a Wednesday. I paid the retainer. He said he would file his appearance by the end of the week. Roughly two weeks later that happened. 2. In the same meeting I provided to him rel...
To respond to Erin Hiles review: 1. I never promise when I will file my appearance, especially when we are filing motions with the appearance. I only state that the appearance will be filed in a timely manner. 2. Erin is a liar. I never promised to go back to the date of birth. The Courts normally do not allow one to go back to date of birth for child support, only to the date that paternity was established or to the date of filing of the motion to establish paternity. In this case paternity was established by the court on March 10, 2022 and so Erin cannot go back to 2015 and 2017 to when her two children were born out-of-wedlock. 3. Erin is a liar. Her statement under number 3 is not true. 4. It didn't happen because I had all the information I needed for court. Why meet in my office to go over the same thing when it isn't necessary and only increases the client's bill. If we would have met, Erin would have complained that I was charging her unnecessarily. 5. Erin is a liar. This isn't not true. 6. I have no clue what Erin is babbling about. If I emailed her the information what is her problem. 7. We had a hearing. Outcomes on child support is MATH and a formula is applied with regard to each person's gross weekly income and the number of children. There are also credits for the number of overnights, daycare costs, and the cost of health insurance. So obviously, there are quite a few variables and to give a "potential" outcome of what child is - is not possible. Erin is being disingenuous at best. I went over all of this with Erin. 8. Okay. I am always responsive, helpful, and informative. 9. Invoices are sent out once a month or when the client asks for one. 10. Not true. Erin was not unaware of what she owed me. She was trying to take advantage of not paying me. This was a Paternity case. Erin hired me to establish Paternity, Custody, Parenting time, Child Support, uninsured medical expenses for the children, and to claim the children on taxes. Erin got custody of her children, a child support order was put into place for the Father to pay child support to her, a parenting plan was put in place for the Father, uninsured medical expenses was ruled on by the court, as well as claiming the children on taxes. Erin received everything that she hired me for. So you're welcome. One should not give a bad review when the attorney representing you was able to get you everything you asked for. Erin is upset because she owed me money, wouldn't pay me what she owed, and I turned her over to collections. My focus is on helping people with their legal problems. This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2012.
Public Reprimand issued in IN, 2012
updated on 03/12/2019A reprimand means an attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The State gives the lawyer a public reprimand in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior. Details of the infraction are made part of the public record.
“Regarding the public reprimand cited in 2012 from a November 2007 retainer agreement. Attorney McCloskey was disciplined for the use of the language "non-refundable retainer" as opposed to a "flat fee" or "refundable retainer." A retainer is a deposit towards services and must be earned. A flat fee agreement is an agreement to perform services for an agreed fee. Attorney McCloskey has adjusted all language in retainer agreements to clarify and separate retainer and flat fee agreements.”
