James Carroll Buehler

J. C. Buehler is an ATP-rated pilot/attorney with 35 years' experience in aviation law and related fields. 

His aviation experience includes 15,000 hours flight time and type ratings in the B727; B737; B757; B767; IA-JET; CE-500 aircraft. He served as a Part 121 pilot and aircraft and simulator Check Airman with ATA Airlines (1983-2007), and a Part 135 pilot and Director of Operations (1975-79; 2006-13). He is an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE). 

Mr. Buehler's legal experience includes proceedings in federal and state courts, and appeals before the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and NTSB, as well as practice before the FAA, U.S. Department of Transportation and NTSB in enforcement, compliance and adminstrative proceedings. 

From 1996 to 2000, J. C. was a Hearing Judge with the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, and judge pro tem in the Marion County Municipal/Superior Courts, and Putnam County Circuit Court (1980-1995).  He has been a registered Civil Mediator since 1997, and facilitated mediation training.

From 1980 through 1986, Mr. Buehler was an Adjunct Professor (Commercial Law) at the Indiana University School of Business, and the University of Indianapolis (Business Law). He is a guest lecturer at the Purdue University School of Aviation Technology, and Indiana University McKinney School of Law (Aviation Law, 2011-13). He regularly lectures at aviation law seminars. 

He is licensed to practice in Indiana and Illinois, and is a member of the AOPA, Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association, International Air and Transportation Safety Bar Association, and the Indianapolis and Indiana State Bar Assocation. He is also President and Chairman of the Indiana Aviation Hall of Fame, Inc.
