Amie Martens was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. She received her undergraduate degree in Human Development and Family Studies with a minor in Criminal Justice from Indiana University, Bloomington, where she graduated in 2004. After graduating with distinction, Amie attended Indiana University School of Law (McKinney), and was prosecuting criminal offenses as a certified legal intern with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office before she had even passed the bar. Shortly thereafter, Amie was sworn in as a deputy prosecuting attorney with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
Amie served as a deputy prosecutor in the Municipal and Community Prosecution Divisions where she spent several years focusing on the prosecution of property crimes. In addition to standard prosecution, during her time as a community prosecutor, Amie worked closely with law enforcement officers ranging from training police recruits on collection of evidence and testifying in court to aiding officers in investigating and filing cases. This experience has given Amie invaluable knowledge on the procedural and technical aspects of the investigation and filing of criminal charges. Amie also spent time sharing her knowledge of property crimes and prosecution with the community while giving presentations on a near-weekly basis to members and leaders of the community.
Amie was then assigned to handle major felony cases; including domestic violence related felonies. As part of her assignment, she prosecuted crimes ranging from murder, robbery and aggravated battery, to operating a vehicle while a habitual traffic violator. Amie’s countless hours of courtroom experience has given her intricate knowledge of the judicial system. Currently, Amie has tried over twenty-five jury trials, and has prosecuted and defended countless bench trials.
Now, Amie focuses on using her investigative and courtroom experience to assist clients in criminal, family law, and traffic law matters. Amie has successfully handled contested hearings ranging from defending clients on traffic citations to prosecuting child custody hearings to defending clients accused of major violent felonies.
