I was in a fight in millerburg at a race track. No lawyers wanted to take the case because of the jurisdiction it was in. I contacted a lawyer and he referenced mr haupt who called Me. Under Ohio law 2905.1 section B I had EVERY right to stand my ground and protect myself and anyone in my party from ...danger that had occurred I even teyed to defuse the situation before throwing the punch that ended the situation. Me and Mr haupt went back and fourth for months. I gave him evidence I was protecting the people. Video proof. Voice recording from the person i protected stating I was defending her. It should have been an open close case. Mr haupt basically told me I was pleading guilty and slid my final payment back to me in the lobby of the court before trial (I have my cousin as a witness to this). When we went in he didn’t even attempt to fight for me he let me take a guilty plea because we agreed on the probation terms that I could use my medical marijuanna card due to the accident that occurred because of the courts (I was ran over coming back to my town from having to check in) before I was even coherent enough to go to court a month after my brain injury I had to plead guilty to the offense. After being on probation for one year they are changing my originally agreed to terms and taking my medication away from me. I tryed to reach out for help and Mr haupt has yet to respond even tho he told me that day to contact him in 9 months and he would get my probation dropped. I would represent myself in court before I would hire him to do anything other then file a motion.

Jim Houpt was a very professional attorney during my court case. I was involved in a domestic violence case that he could have had dropped but I chose a different route for personal reasons. Then after the case he went the extra mile to help with things that were on the back burner. He has helped out... multiple friends of mine in cases far worse than mine with also positive outcomes. He may not answer your phone calls but he will return text messages. You have to remember you're probably not his only client a text message gets things done phone calls intrude on getting things done. He even took time on Christmas Eve to resolve a different matter that was not part of the case. Thank God for lawyers like Jim Houpt.

First and foremost, disregard any negative reviews you may have seen or read about Attorney Haupt... they could not be more beyond the scope of reality. None of them are even close to relevant according to my experience. I have had to use other lawyers in my life for other circumstances and they we...re great. But, Jim was the best. He went above and beyond when I needed him the most. He would ALWAYS call me back and / or reply to my texts. He even has texted me way after normal working hours to update me on my case. He also worked on my case all hours of the day and night. He also took my call and met me on a Sunday for a consult. He is aggressive and a fantastic negotiator. That only happens if you know the facts and proof of the case, in which he did. Not only did his hard work get me the lowest penalty possible but he was extremely down to earth and personable the whole time. God forbid I never need a criminal defense lawyer again, but if I did, he would be the first person I would call. Even after my case was resolved, he still answers my calls if I need advice. Not only is he a great attorney but he is a great person. I am genuinely grateful I was even able to meet him. I say good luck in finding a lawyer with all of those qualities. If you are in need for an impeccable attorney, he is the perfect candidate. Also remember, we all make mistakes and that does not define who we are as human beings. Attorney Haupt talks a big case when you first meet him... don’t buy it! All the rules he stated to me about an OVI that would cause my case to be thrown out or at the very least reduced he didn’t even file with the court. I had to constantly ask for driving privileges, ask about things posted on my ...case online he seemed to know nothing about. He flat out lied that he filed for suppressing evidence and filed for a witness narrative when he didn’t. He made a lot of promises of phone calls, meetings, filings and then I go to court and get state mandatory minimum anyway. If it’s your first offense you’d represent yourself better. Maybe in a few years when he gets some more experience and builds better relationships at the courthouse he’ll serve the community better. I really feel he dropped the ball and sometimes didn’t even remember about my case. Very dissatisfied. He offered me a refund but then ran out of the courthouse before I could actually collect it from him lmao. Surprise surprise !

James Haupt is the epitome of unprofessionalism. We hired him to represent my brother in a DUI case and he lied constantly. He never answered his phone and when he got back to us, he was always beyond rude. He even failed to show up to my brother's court dates when he needed to. Do not waste your tim...e and money.
