Awful Lawyer/nice person

We had one question after our son died unexpectedly. We wanted to know what we needed to do regarding filing taxes, etc. After almost 2 years probate was done. My husband had to go to bank, to probate etc. etc, We got a citation because we were told not to go to court by Tom! We had to pay court... costs for that. He had everything that I received regarding a nothing estate but he kept forgetting that he had the information. Forms had to signed more than once because he couldn't find them. I could go on and on and on. After it was over we went to see a probate attorney. Finally taxes were taken care of. It was an added expense but we needed to get it done. The taxes taken out of the retirement that our son had was returned to us. Because of that we both have to add one half of the estate to our income in 2019. We will pay the taxes we will owe from the money that was returned to us. The first thing we found out from the probate attorney was that we should have waited 6 months. We were not obligated to do one thing. There was no reason to go to probate since everything he had went to his bills. We started this process with Tom in April of 2016. It is now May of 2018 and we finally feel that we have taken care of this mess. The last step is filing our taxes in 2019 with the income form the estate. Tom is a nice person. But I would never recommend him to anyone for anything. I wanted someone that would be honest, answer our questions etc. etc. He did nothing but dragged everything on. We think his wife was also involved in the long term mess that should never have happened. My husband did more than he did so that we didn't have to file a extension. He found out what we needed from our bank and she told my husband who to go see at the Probate court.
