After consultations with several recommended attorneys, I chose Steve because of his calm demeanor, clarity and attentiveness; I know now that made a very good choice. It is with great gratitude that I write this review, enthusiastically recommending this good man as an advocate, should you have the... misfortune of needing a divorce. Steve and his kind, competent paralegal, Jo Ellen, very patiently supported and guided me through times of fear and confusion, answering my many questions as I processed through my divorce. I am eternally grateful to both of them. Steve remained calm and respectful at all times— to everyone; his respectful manner is constant and noteworthy. His steady peacefulness kept me calm and gave me confidence, knowing that he was in my corner. Steve is an intelligent strategist who is focused and dedicated to his client’s best interests; his attention to detail and evident effort in preparation are sublime and translate to a favorable outcome in court. As I watched him work on the day of my trial, it was clear that Steve loves what he does and he does it very well. Steve came recommended on an anonynous source on an internet forum. I'm so glad I called him. He stepped after I decided that the first attorney I hired just wasn't competent. When I hired Steve, the difference was night and day. Steve asks questions to make sure he knows what your concerns are. He e...xplains clearly and concisely what you need to know, how the system works, what the OTHER attorney is probably thinking. Long story short, he knows what he's doing. Also his assistant Jo Ellen is excellent as well. Communication happens quickly and clearly. Steve and Jo allowed me to relax and trust that things were being handled as best they could. Their excellence took a lot of the anxiety about divorce out of the equation for me. My wife's attorney was at a large firm in downtown Cleveland. So was my first attorney. Both of them were (relatively) incompetent especially when compared to Steve. Don't believe that because an attorney is part of a large firm and they have beautiful offices, that this translates into competence. It doesn't. If you want to feel confident that you're getting the best representation available, hire Steve August. He's tough, fair, supremely knowledge, affable, patient, and will always keep you informed as to exactly what's going on. If I could give him 10 stars, I would.

Getting divorced can be challenging, sad and frustrating, to say the very least. I remember asking around for “the good guy”. I wanted to be fair and yet strong. I wanted to be protected and smart, but to “do the right thing” I knew 28 yrs ago that I married the right person and believed that for a v...ery long time until one day everything changed. The day I decided that I needed to be divorced I knew that I needed someone in m y corner. I needed someone with a soul, not the guy you hear about that takes you for a ride and before you know it, the situation is out of control, both in emotion and cost. Thank God I found Steve. He was everything good I was looking for. He was tough and strong when I needed him to be. He listened when I needed him to listen. He trusted me as I trusted him to do the right thing. Steve is a family man himself so he understood where I was coming from and wanted to help me resolve my exit the right way. He was able to reason with my spouse, something I hadn’t seen anyone do in a long time. He did his job to the final degree. I must say he couldn’t do all of this without his awesome assistant Jo. She was conscientious and finitely detailed. She was kind and supportive. I never thought I would write a review on what a “good outcome” of a divorce would look like, but here I am doing so.. Thank you Steve and Jo. I am grateful that you both know your way and you guided me to where I needed to be in the end. I walked away knowing no matter what that I did the right thing.

Not only am I a client, but I am also an attorney. When I was blindsided with divorce, Steve was the first person I called. Although I initially thought the divorce would be collaborative, I quickly realized that would not be the case, and the process would be even more difficult. Steve was fa...ntastic through the whole process. He kept me fully informed, provided great service (all of my questions and concerns were very promptly answered in a direct and straight forward manner), and gave me great advice. Most importantly, he listened to what I needed, set the priorities to get those things accomplished, and put me first. He was direct, effective, compassionate, and efficient. While divorce (especially with kids) is traumatic, having Steve in my corner allowed me to preserve my relationship with my kids, get the custody arrangement that I wanted, move forward in life, and maintain financial stability. Thanks, in large part to Steve, life did move forward after separation and divorce. I do not wish the grief of the end of a long marriage on anyone, but if they must face it for any reason, Steve should be their first call!!!
