Steven Edward Wolkin

Mr. Wolkin was hired to represent me in my sons child custody/ child support case. He was knowledgeable (or appeared to be) in the area of custody. However, he was mostly interested in simply creating billable hours and being able to charge as much as possible, not in coming to a resolution that was ...best for my son. He ignored any amenable compromises instead choosing to litigate everything to the fullest, asking for multiple depositions on multiple issues from multiple people that were totally unecessary and sending hundreds of pages of coorespondance that were of no necessity or value, charging me for all of it. We opted not to retain another attorney even after realizing this because by the time we realized the way he does business, the cost of starting over would have been too high compared to just finishing out the case. He continually waited until the day of hearings to complete requested tasks, even when having weeks to prepare beforehand. The two things that bothered me most were that he advised us to use him to contest the billing for my sons guardian and also for a very small amount of child support, knowing full well beforehand that the amount he would charge to settle these disputes would be far higher than the money saved. This I feel is very unethical to suggest to clients to go forward in order to 'save' money while actually lying and charging them more than they save. Mr. Wolkins total availability and lack of clients, whereas originally viewed as a good thing because of the amount of time he could spend on my case, now points to the fact that others are well aware of his ripping off his own clients. (Not to mention his hourly at $275 is on the higher end) Your case would be much better off handled by a down to earth, reasonable attorney.

I naively hired this attorney to represent the best interests of my minor child as the guardian ad litem during a child custody case. From the very start as my child's GAL Mr. Wolkin repeatedly missed scheduled appointments. He also attempted a home visit on the wrong day. When asked to recuse himsel...f of this appointment he became bellicose and exhibited incredulousness when his professionalism was questioned by my attorneys. Mr. Wolkin clearly also had a very difficult time maintaining even a simple understanding of facts and events. An inordinate amount of my time was spent correcting the repeated factual mistakes that would almost invariably end up in a deluge of unnecessary emails and correspondence. Belying his own advice to newly appointed GAL's his invoices for services were incomplete and vague. Mr. Wolkin also engaged in questionable misrepresentations to other principles involved in this complex custody case. Mr. Wolkin repeatedly filed motions which according to this concerned and loving father were totally at odds with the charge he was given, that being the best interest of my child. Research Mr. Wolkin's conduct as an attorney and GAL online before you utilize his substandard services.

Mr Wolkin is extremely knowledgable and hard working. Mr Wolkin is also very organized and excellent at keeping me informed-I never guessed what was happening during any point in my case. I felt I had total control of the process and was always in the loop. Never seen an attorney like him and would s...trongly recommend
