Andrew is an Adjunct Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Law where he teaches an advanced Family Law course. Andrew has published articles in Ohio and nationally regarding family law topics and has also contributed and lectured for various associations. Andrew has been recognized within Ohio and nationally for his ability with regard to Domestic Relations Law.

In 2007, Worth Magazine (Robb Report) named Andrew to its list of the "Top 100" attorneys in the nation. Out of the "Top 100" attorneys named, only a handful practice family law and no other family law attorney from Ohio was similarly named. Andrew is also named in the elite lawyers rating guide “Best Lawyers in America.” Martindale-Hubbell, a well known national lawyer rating guide, has awarded Andrew its highest rating, "AV". This rating is reserved for lawyers who have "reached the heights of professional excellence" and “the highest levels of skill and integrity.”

Andrew has been selected as an “Ohio Super Lawyer” since that magazine was first published in Ohio. In 2007, Super Lawyer Magazine recognized Andrew as one of the 100 most outstanding Super Lawyers in Ohio, out of a field of approximately 50,000. Only four family law attorneys were similarly recognized. Also, Andrew was one of only two family law attorneys selected in Northern Ohio Live’s list of the Top 50 Cleveland Super Lawyers. Since 2003, Andrew has been named a “Leading Lawyer” by Inside Business Magazine. In the 2007 Leading Lawyers edition, Inside Business profiled Andrew. Andrew was also profiled as a feature story in the November, 2004 edition of Cleveland Magazine.

Andrew works extensively in all facets of domestic relations law, including: divorce, dissolution, child custody, support issues, marital settlement agreements, and equitable property divisions. He has handled cases at both the trial and appellate levels throughout Ohio. Andrew is licensed to practice in Ohio, Florida, Washington D.C. (District of Columbia), New York and is licensed in the Federal District Court (8th District of Ohio).

With respect to financial issues of divorce litigation, Andrew practices in the following areas:

  • evaluating and dividing business and partnerships interests;
  • crafting complex property settlements;
  • drafting long and short term spousal support arrangements;
  • accounting for the misappropriation and hiding of marital assets;
  • enforcing and challenging pre-nuptial contracts; and
  • vacating divorce entries on the basis of fraud and non-disclosure of assets.

In connection with child custody matters, Andrew is experienced with the following:

Since my collaborative process has been a disaster, I contacted Andrew as a litigation resource and potential attorney. Unlike his reputation as a “pit-bull” and getting results, Andrew could not have been kinder, compassionate and intelligent during his conversation with me. He has immense knowledge and experience and directed me in a very straightforward manner. I left the meeting with increased knowledge and empowerment.

Mr. Zashin was an excellent attorney! He showed kindness and patience when helping me. When one is going through a trying time it is quite difficult to navigate so a person needs someone in their corner. He was there to help with making the best decisions. This is a persons future after all and so it’s important! One is not thinking clearly! The communication between client and attorney are always concise. If there is a question, It is always answered within a short while. I would definitely recommend him for those that are looking for a great attorney!!

More than just a divorce attorney
Andrew Zashin works extensively in all facets of domestic relations law including divorce, dissolution, child custody, support issues, marital settlement agreements, and equitable property divisions. In his distinguished career, Andrew has received numerous accolades for his capabilities and effective representation of his clients. However, he is more than just a divorce attorney, and a person with the utmost respect for the legal profession and his clients. He is not afraid to take unpopular positions if he believes that they are right because it really is that simple for him. He has taken on the largest of clients where he can only describe the litigation as "Being David when they were Goliath." His work for the Hague Convention aims to protect children in the harshest of custody battles and domestic disputes, and has been listed by the Ohio State Department as a major player for the Convention.

Highly recommended
I came in to see Andrew Zashin and his team regarding an extremely complicated impending child custody relocation case with enormous international complications, which I already had counsel in New York but I found Andrew through research on another case similar to mine. Specifically with a “grave risk” finding because of domestic violence. Andrew was very knowledgeable and experienced about this area of law and had explained to me that this specific kind of case was very important to him because he truly cares about fighting for what’s so clearly right and that is his number one passion. He has proven that to me because he went out of his way to help me. He really couldn’t come at a better time. I feel blessed till this day. Andrew was very responsive to me. I feel comfortable recommending him to someone who needs help with a child custody case, a relocation case or an international custody case.

None Better in Family Law than Andrew Zashin!
I became acquainted with and hired Andrew after hearing glowing reviews from some mutual colleagues who had used his services in the past. Andrew did not disappoint, and in fact, far exceeded my expectations. I have retained countless attorneys, both privately and professionally, and I can say without reservation that Andrew Zashin is simply the best that money can buy. Highly cerebral, charismatic, on top of his game, and with the tenacity of a junkyard dog, Andrew will go to bat for you and accept nothing less than justice served. From the moment I first walked into his office, I knew I was in the best of hands. After listening patiently to my concerns, his responses were measured and spoke to his immense knowledge of family law and case precedent. You could tell he truly cared about my unique situation and the assets I desired to protect. It's no secret in Ohio that when serious assets are on the line in a divorce, the party that gets to Andrew first, wins. That might sound like hyperbole, but I can assure you it is not. There are certainly no guarantees when it comes to legal outcomes, but retaining Andrew is as close it gets. More than highly recommended...simply the best there is.

Strategic Insight, Expertise and Experience That's Unsurpassed
For nearly a decade, Andrew Zashin has been a colleague. Recently, I turned to him for legal counsel when my divorce case stretched into its second year and became more difficult and challenging than I ever imagined. Andrew responded immediately and carefully reviewed the issues that were complicating the situation. He recognized serious problems that my attorney of record didn’t and took a considerable amount of time to patiently explain the obstacles I was facing and the options he believed I should consider. Andrew and his talented team of family law attorneys at Zashin & Rich, worked to develop forward-thinking strategies designed to shift the course of my case and result in a far better outcome for myself and my daughters. The approach was unique as Andrew viewed my case differently than the lawyers before him. He looked at the whole picture and envisioned multiple tactics to get us ahead as opposed to constantly playing catch up. Andrew calls it playing chess instead of checkers. I call it the kind of counsel you need to position yourself for a successful resolution. From the start, Andrew never lost site of the end game. He kept my best interests at heart and understood my daughters came first. If I was starting this entire process over, I wouldn’t consider any other attorney. I would turn to Andrew Zashin because the truth is, he provides representation well beyond what the vast majority of attorneys are even capable of.

Exceptional
Contacted over a domestic dispute over the weekend. Was called back almost immediately, very helpful. Very thorough. Didnt beat around the Bush. Was polite professional and a straight shooter. Didnt pull any punches said it how it was. Wouldn't waist my time or His, which is very important due to the quick response needed for the circumstances related to my case.

Divorce is something I do not wish on my worst enemy. After meeting with dozens of attorneys, my skin was crawling. As soon as I sat with Andrew Zashin, I knew he cared and I could end the painful search. Without getting into the bloody details of my miserable ex, let’s just say that I can once again enjoy my life...thanks to Zashin & Rich! Thank you for finding me such a wonderful new path!

Very helpful
Mr. Zashin was very helpful. I reached out on Avvo just to get some information for my potential divorce. He was very quick to respond even though it was a weekend. His information was helpful and put my mind at ease if my marriage does end in divorce. I am grateful that I will have someone like him in my corner. Although I’m not to the point of needing to hire a lawyer I feel confident he will help do what’s best for my daughter and I if it comes down to it.

Post-divorce child issues
My wife and I came into see Andrew to discuss post-divorce issues with respect to children's issues. Andrew was very knowledgeable and very experienced about this area of law and sensitive to our children's needs. His team was resourceful, energetic, clever and creative. Andrew was extremely responsive when it came to anything that we needed. He was always just a phone call or email away. Andrew answered all of our questions and made sure we felt very comfortable with everything. We definitely would recommend Andrew to someone who needs help with a divorce and/or a child custody case.

Andrew Zashin Gave Me My Life Back
Andrew Zashin of Zashin and Rich is one of the attorneys who represented me when I filed for divorce. At our initial consultation, I was a broken, frightened, insecure woman after thirty six years of being married to a despotic bully. Andrew thoroughly explained what impact divorce might have on me with respect to my future and as a result, inspired me and gave me hope. I have only perspiring superlatives to describe this brilliant man, whose knowledge and experience in divorce and child custody are incomparable. Andrew emanates and devotes focused passion, consummate interest, and determined energy to one's case at all times. He is keenly intuitive, perceptive and compassionate. Furthermore, he is astonishing at the speed at which he responds to any email. I barely push "send" and literally within seconds to minutes I receive a response. Andrew is astronomically comprehensive, meticulously thorough, and mach-speed fast. Although divorce proceedings periodically caused much agonizing fear and anxiety, Andrew was at all times the alpha wolf who had my back. Each and every time he took powerful actions, provided me confident reassurances, comforting explanations, and appropriate humor to calm me down. He once offered to buy me ear plugs to drown out my husband. I have the greatest respect, most profound admiration, heart felt gratitude for and overwhelming trust in Andrew. He is extremely modest about his immeasurable talents and the supreme importance he has in anyone's life who is going through the agonies of divorce litigation. Thanks to Andrew I blossomed from feeling like a rain drenched, timid mouse into a supremely confident, strong, and happy woman. I also received an excellent settlement and will never have to live under a bridge or sell carnations at airports to survive. I cannot recommend Andrew Zashin highly enough.

Very Responsive with Great Advice
I came to Andrew after reading one of his blogs online regarding an international move-away case. I found myself in a similar situation and felt my divorce attorney would not be suitable to advise me on an impending child custody case with an international element. Andrew was extremely responsive, sensitive and helpful in guiding me with my case. He was very knowledgable about this area of law, specifically the international complications that we could face. I would love to hire him when the time is right.

Legal Excellence, respect and compassion
I was referred to Andrew Zashin by several sources, came in to see him regarding a potential child custody case and/or a modification of an existing custody order. It may have turned into relocation case and had the potential of involving the laws of another country. I found Mr. Zashin to be sensitive, knowledgeable and experienced about this area of law. Most importantly I had consulted and retained other Ohio lawyers, whom treated me with disrespect, and gave me wrongful information, which impacted my situation, significantly. Andrew was responsive, especially in comparison to other lawyers I have worked with in the past. He took his time, I never felt rushed or spoken 'down to' he was honest as to my circumstances, however this honesty came with information, and vast knowledge he shared, that in 7 years no other Ohio lawyer has ever seem to know or understand the laws. Andrew, answered my questions and I feel comfortable recommending he and his team to any parent who needs help with modifying a shared parenting plan or changing a child custody order. Andrew was also experienced with the international aspects of custody cases. Most important to me, I left my first meeting, feeling empowered, that I had someone advocating and on 'my team'. Meeting Andrew was an epoch of change in my custody and forward plans for my future and impact on my children's lives. Andrew did not just regurgitate the 'law' he took an actual interest in the best approach for my family, children's welfare and short and long term goals. This is the integrity that one can hope for and too seldom find in a lawyer. Best legal decision I ever made contact Andrew Zashin. I wish I had done so much sooner.

Saved me a tremendous amount of $
1.) I came to Andrew after I was divorced to work on child support matters. The original deal, drafted by supposedly top attorneys, was somewhat unclear about certain matters which my ex-wife and her new lawyer(s) tried to turn into a cash grab. 2.) I had a complex case because I was an executive at a publicly held company and I started to earn more money after the divorce. 3.) My ex-wife's various lawyers did not understand my company's SEC filings and public financial statements and insisted on making outlandish claims to the court which confused and needlessly delayed matters. 4.) Andrew was able to cut through the nonsense and persuade the court that our reading of the documents and the divorce agreement was correct. 6.) I ended up getting a good deal. 7.) I was much more impressed with Andrew and his staff than any of the other lawyers who had been involved with my case, on either side. 8.) I would refer Andrew to anyone who has a complicated and high net worth situation. Several other "top" lawyers had been involved in my case but Andrew was head and shoulders better than they were.

International Child Custody and Relocation
I usually avoid attorneys and I have had the unwelcome misfortune through the decades to work with several. Andrew is a singular and bright exception. He is very intelligent, responsive and guided by a strong internal code to serve and assist. I found he genuinely cares and is forthcoming about where he can and cannot help (thus saving me unnecessary fees). I came to Andrew with a particularly complex international child custody case and due to its complexity I needed to consult with him several times. In advance, I had read some of his articles in the Oxford University Press that were directly related to my case. I am from Southern Ohio but I chose Andrew because of his unique knowledge and skills in this specific area of international law but also encompasses federal and state laws. Andrew was patient and thorough answering all my questions. I recommend him without hesitation for any child custody case, relocation case or international child custody case.

"Amazing for difficult cases with complicated businesses."
After being sued by my ex-wife for divorce, I reached out to Andrew shortly thereafter due to his reputation and through word of mouth from acquaintances having used his services in the past. My case, based in central Ohio, had involved a set of highly valued business interests and personal assets along with child custody issues. I needed to go to Cleveland for sophisticated counsel in dealing with a highly complex set of issues and challenges. Andrew quickly assembled an excellent team to assist on my case. The team carried the same level of energy, passion, and intelligence as Andrew. Our group was successful in convincing the opposing side to take the case out of court and into mediation and arbitration due to its complexity. Andrew and team traveled to my area on numerous occasions to prep and eventually hold the mediation and arbitration in a local area hotel. The case was settled within a day with a very favorable outcome. I would highly recommend Andrew and his firm to ANYONE looking for these type of services.

I am so thankful for Zashin and Rich
I have never written an online review before but wanted to express how incredibly thankful I am to Andrew Zashin and Amy Keating for helping me through the most difficult time of my life. I hired Andrew for a very ugly, complex divorce and child custody case. My ex husband tried to hide a substantial amount of money (he went to extreme measures to do this). Andrew and his team found the money as well as other assets my ex tried to hide. Andrew was also extremely responsive to my emails and phone calls. If I sent an email on a Sunday night I would hear back from him within 10 minutes! I received emails time stamped at 4:00 in the morning. I don't think that this man ever sleeps! Andrew and his team were with me every step of the way, from start to finish. I wouldn't have had the strength to do this without them. They are absolutely worth every penny! I could not be more pleased with the outcome!

Very Happy With This Law Firm
I hired Andrew's law firm to represent me in my child custody case. While my interaction with Andrew was brief, I was exceptionally pleased with the performance of his attorney, Christa Heckman, and the entire staff for the year long duration of my case. I retained Zashin & Rich to assist me because they were the only law firm of the 13 that I called that took the time to listen to my situation and help me make the decision to hire them without insisting on an instant retainer just to talk to me. Because my case was long-distance, I only had my phone conversations to go on to make a decision and I was not comfortable hiring a firm that wouldn't talk to me first. In the end, I'm very happy with my choice. My case was resolved as amicably as I could have hoped for and I am quite pleased with the result. If you are looking for a firm to represent you, I strongly recommend you interview Andrew or one of his attorneys before you hire anyone else. A+ service and results!

Thorough, responsive, helpful
I spoke to Andrew during my exploratory find-a-lawyer phase, and found him very thorough, responsive and helpful even though I was not yet committed to him. He was thoughtful, sympathetic and listened hard. He was able to be sensitive to the chaos and unsettled nature of my situation, but was able to provide direct, unvarnished need-to-have perspective that helped provide reassurance and the confidence to move ahead secure in the knowledge that he would be an aggressive advocate for me and my kids.

"Andrew's skill and legal acumen is of the highest caliber. In my opinion he is the best divorce attorney in Ohio, and one of the best in the country. He is brilliant. Andrew is a weapon for which those clients fortunate enough to hire him first should be thankful. His unique ability to quickly identify issues in a case, rapidly and thoughtfully hone those issues into an effective strategy for the courtroom, and deliver them in an effective manner under the most difficult of situations, is rare. I have personally been fortunate to have Andrew as a mentor, and I have learned a great deal from him which I utilize in my own practice. I truly endorse this lawyer."
