Jonathan James Schlegel

I consulted with him regarding an eviction, paid $450 a Termination of Tenancy letter (he didn't sign it) that I later found for free under the Kick em Out website. He also charged and received $140 for court fees in advance. I posted the letter and now it's time for the 3-day notice to vacate he sa...id was the next step and he does not return calls emails or text messages. I am stuck with a squatter in my home and now must consult another attorney to finish the process, and another attorney later to retrieve my court fees from him. He has an A+ rating on the Better Business Bureau because no one has left any comments there, but I will now do that and encourage others he has cheated to do so as well.

After reading the positive reviews I thought to give Jonathan a try but his lack of professionalism and unfamiliarity with Cleveland has forced me to use another attorney who is more professional and local to Cleveland. Jonathan was responsive in the beginning when earning my business. We spoke on... December the 27th in preparation for filing eviction on Wednesday the 29th. He did not say anything was amiss and in fact confirmed his office will file on the 29th. The 29th came and I called and emailed asking for confirmation of first and second cause filings. No response. Thursday the 30th came and I called and left a message asking for the same confirmation. No response. Friday the 31st was a court holiday. The following Monday, I called and left emails throughout the day. At 10 minutes to 5pm he picked up and began going through the file and told me that a lead affidavit was missing. Why didn't he mention this a week ago, or at any time before the 29th (his confirmation of filing), or on Wednesday the 29th, or on Thursday the 30th. I would have immediately gotten the document into him within an hour. Time is money. I had another tenant lined up to move in six weeks. He blamed it on me for not having my docs in order. Ok. But he gets paid to 1) make sure that documents are in order prior to filing, 2) LET ME KNOW if anything is amiss BY the deadline he himself had confirmed, and 3) respond promptly (as his voicemail stated). Instead of assuming responsibility for letting the ball drop, he tried to put it on me. Furthermore, he downplayed the matter by saying filing would "only be delayed two to three days." Not really. He promised to file on the 4th and did not do so. I could not wait for him to actually follow through on his word. Jonathan should have reviewed the file in preparation for filing on the 29th and notified me that a document was missing. He wasn't proactive and wasn't responsive. He tried to gaslight. I'm very disappointed by the service and took my case to another attorney local to Cleveland. I asked Jonathan for a refund and no response yet. The attorney local to Cleveland said that the person who posted the 3-day notice needs to testify in person at the hearing or the matter will be tossed. Jonathan did not mention this. Does not seem like he is familiar with Cleveland evictions.
