I have been practicing in the estate planning area since 1982.  I have an undergraduate degree in accounting, so I have always been interested in the tax planning aspects of estate planning, as well as working with individuals.  I have worked in virtually all phases of estate planning, including the preparation of comperehensive (and often complex) estate plans, including working with owners of closely held businesses, nonprofit organizations, professionals, and a great variety of interesting people.  Each family situation presents unique opportunities (and often challenges) and I try to approach each client as if they were a member of my own family.

With the birth (adoption) of my two special needs children in the early 1990's, I became very interested in planning for special needs children.  This work has enabled me to not only help my clients, but to also learn from them!  Together we work to solve the individual special needs planning situation in order to maximize total resources available to the special needs individual.  This includes maximimizing government benefits such as Social Security and Medicaid, arranging appropriate Trustee and advisory roles, identifying service-providers who may be able to help the individual in his or her special situation, providing for maximum flexibility for unforseen circumstances, etc.  I prepare estate plans for clients with special needs loved ones (so called "third party" special needs trusts), as well "first party" special needs trusts for disabled individuals who may have received an unplanned inheritance, a lawuit settlement, etc.  Without the use of a special needs trust, the disabled person may lose his or her benefits and we can avoid that outcome in the vast majority of cases.

My practice if very personalized and has brought me great personal and professional satisfaction for well over 30 years.

Special Needs Trust/Estate Planning
Mr. Yussman provided legal expertise for my husband and me to set up a special needs trust for our son so that if something happens to us, his inheritance would not disqualify him from receiving medicaid, among other program benefits. He also drafted our wills, powers of attorney and living wills. He is knowledgeable, professional and understands the law in Kentucky as well or better than any other lawyer in the commonwealth with regard to these issues. I highly recommend him.

Fantastic!
Jeff has been my attorney for years and has always been very knowledgeable, prepared, and great at communicating the how's and why's of his representation. Very proud of the way he represents me, himself, and his firm.

Jeff Yussman is an exceptional attorney because he is an exceptional person.
Jeff Yussman is a person of great integrity and strong family values. He is also a very easy going person, a good listener and readily engages in friendly conversation with everyone he meets. These qualities, combined with a professional demeanor and subject matter expertise in trust & estates law, tax planning and multigenerational family legal matters make Jeff Yussman the ideal trust & estates attorney. Jeff has also earned a great reputation as our region's most experienced attorney in the area of special needs trusts, which distinguishes him and his firm and enables families who are clearly dealing with family members who have special needs to be comforted and confident in the solution Jeff recommends. In summary, I consider Jeff to be one of our community's greatest assets when it comes to trust & estates law and especially so when special needs trusts and planning are necessary.
