Charles H. Barnett, III, has 40 years of experience specializing in civil litigation. In addition, he is listed as a Rule 31 Mediator by the Tennessee Supreme Court. Mr. Barnett has litigation experience in a wide variety of areas representing both defendants and plaintiffs in personal injury, products liability, workers’ compensation, employment discrimination, professional liability, eminent domain and commercial litigation. Mr. Barnett has been given Martindale-Hubbell’s highest peer review rating of AV and has been deemed by peer review process as a Super Lawyer of the Mid-South for each year since 2006. He was also selected as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society consisting of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers.
Mr. Barnett is a native of Jackson, Tennessee, where he graduated from Jackson High School in 1964. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Memphis State University in 1969 and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Memphis State University School of Law in 1975.
He was a member of the Memphis State University Law Review where he authored three articles. These articles include: “Real Estate – Mechanics’ and Materialmen’s Liens in Tennessee,” 5 Mem. L. Rev. 359 (Spring 1975); “Constitutional Law Tennessee, Nuisance Statute Declared Unconstitutional,” 4 Mem. L. Rev. 619 (Spring 1974); and “Taxation – Mutual Funds be Valued at Redemption Price,” 4 Mem. L. Rev. 184 (Fall 1973).
Mr. Barnett is a member of the Jackson-Madison County Bar Association (President, 1990); a member of the Tennessee and American Bar Associations; Defense Research Institute; and Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association. He is a graduate of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, he served as Assistant Attorney General for the State of TN from 1976 to 1978, and is a recipient of the Jackson-Madison County Association Pro Bono Award in 1989. He currently serves as general counsel to the Health, Education and Housing Facilities Board for the City of Jackson.
Mr. Barnett resides in Jackson, Tennessee, with his wife Elizabeth, who is a medical technologist, and his three children. His interests include sailing, sail boat racing, the study of the natural world and spending time with his family and friends.
