I hired Misty Becker to assist with my non-contested divorce in 2011. I paid the $3,000 retainer fee in hopes that it would keep my case moving quickly. Once she had my $3,000 check, it was like I disappeared off her radar. I could never get her on the phone, and her emails were set up to give you an automated response that she is very busy and may not even answer emails (seriously?!?). I would have to call the receptionist several times and leave a message, asking Misty to call me back, but never received a response. So I would just ask the receptionist to let me know what information/documentation they needed so I could be sure that I did my part to get things moving. Once I would call and asked about court dates and deadlines, THEN she would start trying to get the dates set. Keep in mind, most of this communication was mediated by the receptionist - I talked to her more than I ever did my attorney. This receptionist was an elderly woman with no legal certification, but she handled all of the paperwork. Just when I thought we were close to the end of everything, this receptionist transposed some numbers on my ex's social security number on one of the docs, and it added another couple of months to the whole process (waiting for revised docs, resetting court dates, etc.). The kicker is that Misty was billing me for every email and phone call with the receptionist - including the calls and emails to fix HER mistake (we are talking about a $50 charge per half hour, and one email response from a RECEPTIONIST was billed as a half hour)! I expected to get some of my $3,000 retainer fee back because it should have more than covered the costs for this type of divorce. However, not only did I not get anything back, her fees exceeded the $3,000, so I began getting bills. My divorce should have been final in August, but due to the receptionist's mistake and Misty's slow responses, it was not final until October. I was out 2 months of child support AND was in the hole with this "attorney". I don't feel like I received the service I should have for $3000, much less anything over that. I lost $2200 in child support because of her, and I still receive bills with insane interest even years later. I refuse to pay her a single dime. I'm not worried that she will try to come after me for the money because that would require making phone calls and actually doing something which doesn't seem to be her niche. A simple divorce proceeding that was initiated in 2011, and did not get resolved until October 2012 is ridiculous. I cannot fathom the idea of paying someone for their laziness. And I am certainly not going to pay her elderly receptionist for her "counsel" and typos which caused a $2200 loss in child support, along with fees for fixing her mistakes. Worst experience ever - I would NEVER recommend anyone to her....unless you don't like money. If she happens to read this, I hope she can manage to pick up a phone and call me to discuss. But good luck getting another dime of my hard earned money.

I hired Misty Becker and was not given the attention and focus that as a paying client I felt I should have received. For example deadlines were missed and pertinent documents ignored. My case was neglected and fees were very excessive .

I hired Ms. Becker for a child support case. We payed her for a year before we even saw a court room. She filed a motion for the wrong court and charged me to change it to the correct one. I hired a bother lawyer and they handled our problem within 6 months.
