William Matthew Bennett

Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, William completed his undergraduate degree with a dual major in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Tennessee. While at UT William was a participant in the Pride of the Southland Band. After completing his bachelor’s degree William worked with the firm as a law clerk until he enrolled into law school at St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami Gardens, Florida.

As a student at St. Thomas University, William was highly active in Moot Court. He was elected Executive Vice President and was a member of the semifinalist team which competed at the 2009 John J. Gibbons Criminal Procedure Moot Court Competition hosted by Seaton Hall School of Law. Additionally, during his third year of law school William worked for the Public Defender’s office of Dade County, where he wrote appellant briefs and conducted oral arguments under the Guidance of Howard K. Blumberg. 

Upon graduating law school in 2009 William successfully passed the Florida Bar and has been an active member of the Florida Bar since October of 2009.  Shortly after passing the bar William was employed by Ben Ezra & Katz, P.A., who represented large corporations in property law. William’s main focus was on mediation, the alternate dispute resolution process, and litigation.  

In July of 2011 William again joined Sheppeard & Mynatt. That following February he sat for the Tennessee Bar Exam and passed. He has been admitted to practice in Tennessee since May of 2012. William’s primary focus at Sheppeard & Mynatt is family law, including divorce, child support disputes, orders of protection, drafting of wills, and the administration of probate. William is currently a member of the Knoxville Bar Association and has participated in numerous activities, including the Habitat for Humanity Project, Angel Tree Gifts, and Barristers.
