Darald Schaffer is a partner of the firm. Darald is highly skilled and experienced in representing businesses and business owners in business litigation matters, mergers and acquisitions, and other transactional matters that businesses frequently encounter. He also represents several local and regional businesses as general counsel.
In addition to his business law practice, Darald commonly represents clients in real estate matters including commercial and residential real estate transactions and litigation of boundary line disputes, mechanic’s and materialmen’s liens, easements, and landlord-tenant matters.
Darald’s skill and experience as a seasoned litigator enables him to provide rare and valuable insight to business owners who are contemplating the sale or purchase of businesses. Darald frequently represents businesses and business owners with negotiating many different varieties of both simple and complex merger and acquisition transactions involving asset purchase agreements, stock purchase agreements, and equity purchase agreements.
Having represented a national wireless carrier in hundreds of real estate transactions over a decade, Darald is uniquely skilled in negotiating commercial real estate transactions including tower leases, commercial leases, easements, and licenses in addition to representing clients in zoning matters. Darald also represents both commercial and residential landlords in landlord-tenant law disputes.
Commercial property owners also frequently rely on Darald’s advice and experience in structuring and handling 1031 exchanges involving real estate. A like-kind exchange permitted under 26 U.S.C. § 1031 enables property owners to defer capital gains tax upon the sale of property held for investment purposes by exchanging the property being sold (referred to by the IRS as the “relinquished property”) for a replacement property of equal or greater value.
Darald has been awarded the peer review rating of “AV Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell. For more than 150 years, Martindale-Hubbell has been the primary source of attorney ratings throughout the United States. AV Preeminent is the highest peer rating standard awarded by Martindale-Hubbell. This rating is only given to attorneys who are ranked at the highest level of professional excellence for their legal expertise, communication skills, and ethical standards by their peers.

Darald Schaffer and Jodi Schaffer (also a partner at the firm) have been married for over twelve years and have three children. They are members at the Crossing Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee where they serve in leadership and volunteer roles. Jodi and Darald are also volunteers and advisors to Dream Central Chattanooga, a locally- based global missions organization.
