Great lawyer

I was so worried about my criminal case, but Mr. Nixon help me to ease my mind. I went to two other lawyers before I found Mr Nixon and I won't ever use anybody else. He has a good way about him and I think that makes him better at dealing with other people, like the district attorney or other attorn...eys.

Excellent work!!!

I hired Mr. Nixon for a criminal case and he was wonderful. He kept me informed and took me through the process step by step. I would recommend Russell Nixon to anyone looking for a great lawyer at an affordable rate. I feel he charged a fair rate and worked for hard his attorney fee.

You will waste your money and most likely your freedom.

I wasted $10,000 on Russell Nixon only for him to do absolutely nothing for me but roll over. He was more worried about his relationships with the District Attorney and other district attorneys—and about not making them angry—than about defending me. I was accused of violating an order of protection.... It did not exist. I was arrested by a sheriff’s deputy who was having an affair with my accuser, and my accuser had been arrested a year earlier for physically attacking me and injuring herself in an attempt to set me up to be arrested. He brought up none of that. I had stacks and stacks of evidence; he never looked at one bit of it. I had a felony charge from the same accuser that prosecutors had offered to dismiss, and he even made me plead guilty to that charge so he could keep his other, bigger buddies happy. He did absolutely nothing to defend me. I was locked up, and to get out, I had to plead guilty to charges I was innocent of. Then Russell had the nerve to go to my family and tell them he felt I could beat the charges if we fought them, but he said I didn’t want that—that I just wanted to get out of jail at all costs. He lied through his teeth. $10,000 got me two brief meetings moments before scheduled hearings and a criminal record that has burdened my ability to be a father and ended my career as a coach. When I asked his advice about what to do about false allegations in the future, he told me I would just need to play defense.

Not a good experience: Caveat emptor.

After discussing a property boundary fence case with the attorney, I asked him to write a letter to a neighbor who failed to properly contain his livestock. Mr. Nixon chose to call the neighbor after I stated I only wanted him to write a letter for me. He then billed me for this time, along with 2 ph...one calls to a number that was not mine. (He said he wrote the number down wrong, even though he read it back to me correctly when he was given it.) When I finally was able to get in touch with him after 13 days, I requested a refund since I had seen no action on the case. When the invoice was received several days later, it was addressed to someone else. As the bill was for his call to the neighbor (which I had told him not to do as I wanted a letter written), and for the 2 calls to whom-ever, I cannot recommend this attorney. To avoid the same experience I suffered, I recommend you seek advice of another attorney.

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
