also known as J. Leo Richardson, III, Jimmy Richardson
“The child is the client. The courtroom is sacred. The calling is not negotiable.”
I’m Jimmy Leo Richardson, III—child advocate, courtroom attorney, father, and servant of the law. For over a decade, I’ve served Tennessee families in some of the most high-stakes, emotionally charged legal battles: juvenile court, custody disputes, DCS interventions, adoption, termination of parental rights, and family law matters that determine the future of children and the rights of parents.
I don’t just practice law—I stand in the gap when systems fail, when families are on the edge, and when children need someone who won’t back down. I currently serve Of Counsel to a respected Tennessee law firm and continue my private child advocacy work through The Advocate Father, a platform dedicated to courtroom integrity, parental rights, and the moral defense of children.
Whether you’re facing:
A DCS investigation,
A custody battle where your voice isn’t being heard,
A need to adopt, intervene, or protect your legal rights as a parent or relative—
I bring not only legal strategy but a heart anchored in truth, service, and courage.
My background includes:
Over 11 years of legal experience in juvenile court, family law, adoption, and dependency & neglect cases
Former Adjunct Professor of Law & Ethics at Motlow State Community College
Elected School Board Member for Murfreesboro City Schools, shaping policy for thousands of children
Known for courtroom tenacity, moral clarity, and a refusal to accept bureaucratic injustice
Clients come to me during some of the darkest moments of their lives. My role is to bring light, law, and a path forward. I will never promise an outcome I can't deliver—but I will promise you a voice, a plan, and a fight rooted in truth.

This lawyer literally helped me keep my baby
I was referred to Mr. Richardson by a friend who said he was one of the few lawyers who really and truly cared. While I was at the hospital giving birth to my second child, one of the blood tests that the hospitals gave had a false positive suggesting my child was born with drugs in her system. DCS g...

Thorough, caring, and conscientious.
We engaged Mr. Richardson to write my mother's will and his quality of service went above and beyond. Very sympathetic and personable. We could not be more pleased with the efficiency and delicacy with which he handled this matter.
"Jimmy's a hard-working attorney. His professionalism and diligence have made him a valued member of our local bar. I'd recommend him to anyone looking for aggressive legal representation."
"I highly endorse J. Leo Richarson, III. Jimmy and I have had the opportunity to work together on several cases, and have had several in which we are adversarial. In either capacity, Jimmy has shown himself to be a zealous advocate for his client, with the demeanor of the best characteristics of a legal professional. Again, I highly endorse J. Leo Richardson, III."

"I endorse this lawyer. Specifically, I am impressed by Jimmy's actual compassion for his clients, his willingness to go to the mat for them, and his ability to express positions eloquently, even when the odds are stacked against him. He maintains good relationships with every lawyer I know, and uses that to help his clients. He gets good results. He also has nice style. That never hurts."
"Jimmy is an extremely knowledgeable and professional attorney. He is well versed in criminal, family, juvenile and an assortment of other areas of law. He is quite the bulldog in the Courtroom and can be very litigious; as he zealously seeks the best outcome for his clients. Jimmy is a great attorney and you will be pleased with his work."
