My husband left me after 37 years of marriage for another woman. I had had brain surgery 8 weeks before. To say I was in a bad way and devastated is an understatement. From my first meeting with Mr. Burgess, I knew that God had placed me in the right hands. His compassion and patience with me was w...hat I truly needed at first. I knew I was going to be alright when I heard his knowledge of divorce law. His advice was spot on and you better believe I took it! My settlement was more than my family and I thought I would receive! I am extremely happy that I chose Mr. Burgess and consider him someone I would use for other things if needed! He is just the best!

Top Notch Attorney

I highly recommend Bill and his legal team!! They helped me through an extremely difficult divorce after long-term marriage with young children. He came highly recommended by friends and other attorneys in our community. Bill represented me through my divorce trial (with preceding court hearings as w...ell) and through another modification hearing and trial shortly after the divorce trial, again initiated by ex. The Judge favored me in both trials (final decree from the divorce trial and the final order following the modification trial). I was initially awarded alimony, child support, and sole physical custody of the children and continue with all of these awards unchanged despite ex’s request for changes and elimination of these in the modification trial. Not only were they exceptionally kind and attentive, but Bill’s wealth of expertise and his reputation in the legal community was definitely a plus. He and Sandra, his paralegal, knew how to navigate the many twists and turns of a complicated case and went up against both an aggressive opposing attorney and ex with confidence, ease, and wisdom. Tracy Marion, another amazing attorney new to Bill’s practice (although already a well-established and accomplished attorney) was also a huge asset in the second trial. He was very well-versed on my complex case and assisted Bill in our success. Tracy was also confident and very reassuring. Bill has a brilliant, careful, fair, and considerate approach and listened intently to what was most important to me throughout the entire process. I am forever grateful to them and highly recommend them to others who have to go through this painful life event as well.

Wish I would have found him sooner!

Mr. Burgess represented me in 2014 during a very long custody battle. Hiring him was by far, the best decision I could have made! First of all, you get what you pay for. My initial attorney’s retainer fee was half the cost of Mr. Burgess and I feel I received a fraction of the skill, organization, an...d commitment. At times, I was emotional and worried about my case but his experience/confidence kept me at ease. He knows Alabama law and knows how to try a case! It is absolutely impossible for anyone to remember facts (no matter how basic they seem to us) for every client’s specific case. Mr. Burgess being arguably one of the best family lawyers in Madison County works on numerous cases. Were there times I had to “refresh” him about incidences concerning my case? Yes. One must do this at times with their doctors, veterinarians, plumbers, etc. He is a professional who interacts with several individuals and cases on a daily basis. Let’s all have realistic expectations. He and his office staff were professional and his legal assistant was extremely helpful and talented. If your case goes to trial the lawyer you want sitting beside you is Mr. Burgess! Within minutes of being in the courtroom with Mr. Burgess and Mrs. Gaye I knew why the retainer fee was set where it was. I felt he represented my case beautifully and genuinely cared about the outcome. I never felt like my voice or comments were not expressed or heard while in the courtroom. During negotiations, if I had an unrealistic request, he told me. If it was a time to stand firm with requests, he was in my corner. He did a great job guiding me through the process. Let’s face it; a divorce/custody battle is an extremely stressful and emotional situation. The court system moves slowly and while I would have loved for my case to be resolved overnight, that’s not the way it works. I have recommended Mr. Burgess to anyone that asks me about a family lawyer and I will continue to do so!
