The brilliance of this attorney is remarkable. I hired Herbert law after my x-wife had sued me for a divorce. I was suddenly presented with some really complicated decisions to make in a really short period of time. Where to begin... My husband and I began the process for a stepparent adoption in August 2020 without any representation. My daughters biological father was never in the picture (never signed her birth certificate, never claimed paternity with the putative father registry and never filed for any cus...tody/ child support) and made only a handful of attempts to contact us throughout her 12 years. After we initially filled, we located her bio dad and reached out to him in hopes he would sign away his rights in which he agreed to until the day came and he changed his mind. We decided to proceed and have him served with a notice of adoption which he had 21 days to respond to. On day 21 he submitted to the courts his rejection of the stepparent adoption... that’s when we made over 30+ phone calls to different family law attorneys across Florida. When I made contact with Shane I knew right away he was the attorney for us! I’m a no Bullsh*t kind of gal and after having dealt first hand with multiple attorneys for a separate family matter in the past I wasn’t looking for someone who would tell us what we wanted to hear but instead someone who told facts and didn’t mind putting in the work researching the laws to get us where we needed to be! Our initial phone call with Shane was refreshing! He was to the point, calm / not aggressive (nothing is more frustrating than an attorney using scare tactics to get you to hire them), knowledgeable and more than willing to do his research to find out exactly how he could help. We set up a meeting to interview Shane (I say interview because like I said I’m not one to put my trust into just anyone especially for something as huge as this!). We spent 2 hours in his office discussing everything that had been filed up until that point, bio dads relationship and what our game plan would be going forward if we decided to retain him. He gave us a ton of info and even went on to tell us how we may not even need bio dads permission as he never filed paternity and therefore had no legal rights. We retained Shane that day on September 16,2020. He kept us fully informed at all times over the next month and was quick to respond to any questions we had during that time. On October 19,2020 he set a time for a case management hearing that was scheduled for mid November. November 19, 2020 we prepared for our case management hearing which due to Covid was done over ZOOM. The judge, Shane, bio dad, myself and husband were all in attendance. Once we entered the conference via ZOOM and after about 10 minutes of Shane explaining our case and bio dad giving his reasons (or should I say excuses!) of why he never stepped up, the Judge made the decision right there that 12 years was long enough and bio dads permission in fact WAS NOT NEEDED based on the law Shane presented him with and the final stepparent adoption hearing was to be set. I keep playing that SUPER UNEXPECTED moment in my head over and over again and I just want to cry.... literally one of the best moments of my life! Shane calls us immediately afterwards letting us know his plans to get with the judges assistant immediately to schedule the final hearing. Guys, if you haven’t retained Shane just from the above break down... GET READY! Not even 24hrs later, Shane got back to us with a date set for our final adoption hearing which was to take place in 5 freakin days!!!!! Y’ALL, SHANE IS ON TOP OF HIS SH*T!!!! Today is November 24, 2020...my husbands birthday and the day he LEGALLY became the father to our daughter! Shane, words can not even begin to explain how thankful we are for you! You have changed our lives forever! If you ever find yourself in need of a family attorney, look no further! Shane’s genuine personality, honesty and strong work ethic is what makes him an amazing attorney and anyone would be extremely fortunate to have him by there side representing them through the situation that matters most!
