Biography
I bring unique insight to education law. As a Hillsborough County classroom teacher, I administered and coordinated IEPs (Individual Education Plans) as well as participated in U.S. Department of Education Section 504 Plans as defined under federal law and Florida law. I also learned about the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to best advocate for my students.
I understand these issues as well on a personal level as the mother of a child with ADD/ADHD. As an attorney, I use my knowledge as well as these experiences to partner with parents. After adequate and proper testing and diagnoses, I will ensure that my clients' children receive all their legally allowable accommodations in school.
As a member of COPAA (Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates) I stay abreast of state and federal laws governing special education rights. My passion is determining and enforcing accommodation rights and remedies for students with special learning needs and learning disabilities. I am working toward my Board Certification in Education Law. (Only 5% of all Florida Lawyers are Board Certified.)
A Florida native, a graduate of Sarasota High School, and of Florida State University. After raising my daughter and success as a classroom teacher, I attended law school in Michigan where I obtained my Juris Doctor Degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. I was on the Dean’s List and earned three Certificate of Merits in Constitutional Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution and Florida Comparative Procedure.
My primary objective is to solve the legal needs of my clients as economically and quickly as possible. I deliver clear and concise solutions for my clients while involving them in every aspect of their case. I’ll help them to see the big picture of their case from the initial intake to final resolution. I’ll also allow them to benefit by saving money through participating in their legal solutions when we work as a team to thoroughly address their legal needs.
