buyer beware

I recently contacted this attorney. I asked to speak to him upfront but his office refused to let me speak with him directly but only under the condition that I pay $50 first. I pId the $50 and then was required to wait several days. An appointment was made. When my appoint time came he didn’t call m...e. I was then required to chase him down and call his office to see what was up. The receptionist, who did not seem to know who I was said he was busy and I would have to wait. Some time passed and he finally called me. I then spoke to him and was told that I would need to pay up front for the services I needed. I said OK, but after this he never called me back. During the ensuing week I tried several times to reach Mr Singer. On each instance of calling his office, I would be told he was not available and they would take a message. Each time I had to explain who I was, what the nature of my business was and what I needed. The conversations were extremely unprofessional and at no time did I feel that this as an accessible attorney who would take the time and care to handle my case. Finally I realized that this attorney, who wanted to charge me double the usual rate for his services, would probably not be serving my best interested and decided to drop him. I would certainly not recommend him to others and feel he is cherry picking the big expensive cases and leaves the smaller ones to fend for themselves.

This prospective client contacted our office to speak about a business matter. We offer complimentary consultations for certain types of matters, this was not of that type. I had a long conversation with the gentleman and went over his various options for his transactional matter, and I was able to answer several more questions about his general situation. I presented our terms of representation and he told me he would think about it. He called back a few days later and my paralegal emailed him a form that he would need to fill out so that we could take his transaction to the next step. The next day he called with another question and was informed that I was in a meeting and was offered to have a return call appointment set up. Instead, he spoke with my paralegal "roughly" to the point where she interrupted my meeting very upset. I sent the gentleman a 'standard form' e-mail declining to represent him in his transaction. This review is the result. I have learned that not every prospective client and attorney are a good match for representation. The purpose of the consultation process is to determine both the prospective client's legal rights and option and whether the attorney and prospective client will be able to form a good working relationship. It is part of our Firm's culture to treat everyone professionally and speak respectfully, and I did not feel that it was appropriate to begin a relationship with a potential new client that would put a paralegal in tears before even hiring us. I am saddened that the reviewer was unhappy with his dealings with our Firm and was frustrated to the point of lashing out at the paralegal offering to set an appointment. That being said, I wish him the best of luck and success in the transaction he consulted with me about.
