Mr. Ruiz holds a B.A. degree from Yale University and a J.D. magma cum laude from the Florida International University College of Law. Mr. Ruiz is a managing partner at the Miami Bankruptcy Center PLLC, a law firm, and The Law Offices of Raul Ruiz, P.A. Attorney Ruiz is also an adjunct professor of law at the Florida International University College of Law.
Mr. Ruiz has extensive courtroom and trial experience. As an Assistant State Attorney, Mr. Ruiz handled numerous criminal cases from arrest to trial and conviction. Since serving as a prosecutor for the State of Florida, Mr. Ruiz has continued litigating numerous cases in various areas of the law, including bankruptcy.
Mr. Ruiz contributes part of his professional time to the Put Something Back Bankruptcy Project, assisting low-income individuals and families obtain bankruptcies and other legal assistance.
Mr. Ruiz is actively involved in the legal community of Florida. He is currently a member of the Dade County Bar Association, The American Bar Association, and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. Additionally, Mr. Ruiz is a member of the Florida Bar’s standing rules committee for Small Claims Court.
Mr. Ruiz also completed work as an intern law clerk for the Honorable Judge Kenneth A. Marra, Federal District Court Judge for the Southern District of Florida.
Mr. Ruiz is a native Spanish speaker. He is admitted to practice law in Florida and is a member of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Mr. Ruiz received his undergraduate degree from Yale University. Hereceived a bachelor's degree with a double major in Economics andElectrical Engineering. While at Yale, Mr. Ruiz was a PresidentialScholar, Yale Scholar, Society of American Military Engineers Scholar,Charles E. Jones Scholar, Henry T. Morgan Scholar, and a ConnecticutInformation Technology Scholar. Mr. Ruiz also served on the YaleCollege Council as a representative, was a co-founding member, editor,and technical director of LawMeme at Yale Law School, as well as theDirector of Information Technology for the Yale Law and TechnologySociety.
Mr. Ruiz graduated from the Florida International University College of Law with a J.D. degree and graduated magna cum laude. While in law school, Mr. Ruiz made the Dean's List all of his semester, was a semi-finalist in the Weschler National First Amendment Moot Court Competition at American University in Washington, D.C., was the second place overall oralist in the FIU Intramural Appellate Moot Court Competition, represented the law school at the National Moot Court Competition sponsored by the Assocation of the Bar of the City of New York, and was Vice-President of the Moot Court Board of Advocates. Mr. Ruiz's academic credentials earned him the coveted book awards in courses such as Business Associations, Evidence, Federal Income Taxation, and the Law of War and International Armed Conflict.
