Typical Politician. 5 star reviews suckered me in don't be another victim

Mr Brooks was hired for a 3rd party custody case. This case was extremely complex. After paying his 295.00 consultation fee, which by the way, he stopped the zoom meeting to make sure payment went through, I informed him how complex the case was. The red flags went off when he did not know the law in... how long a child holds Jurisdiction in a state. I actually had to educate him, he later confirmed I was correct. That should have been a red flag for me. Once I explained the case, he stated during his paid consultation, that he knew exactly where to go with the case. We would start with emergency petition for temporary custody for the child. The child is my nephew who I have cared for, and raised for over 2 years ( deadbeat parent case). So I paid Mr. Brooks his 5,000 retainer, he also asked for another 1000 just for court cost. Prior to him starting the petition, I sent Mr. brooks a highly detailed email. I sent him evidence, therapy letters, report cards, and a timeline. I am a very through person. I received a petition a few days after our initial conversation. After reading the petition, I thought it was written by a high schooler. I had to not only edit, but correct everything on the petition. I spent hours collecting all the data needed to put together a strong petition. Making Mr Brooks job very easy. I informed Mr. Brooks of my disappointment in the level of incompetence in the petition that was orchestrated. I could not believe that would come form a paralegal. It was clear, Mr. Brooks did not review the petition prior to allowing his paralegal to send it to me. After I emailed him my great disappointment, he agreed with me. Mr. Brooks stated there would be no charge for that petition and he apologized. Fine, I gave him another shot. He then reassigned the petition to another paralegal in the office. Ericka, who was amazing, and sadly no longer with the firm; within 2 hours wrote a wonderful written, to the point petition with very minor issues. She was on top of it. After I approved the petition, I told Mr. Brooks, it sounds good, but I am not a lawyer and now everything is in your hands. 2 days later Mr. Brooks called me and said " well the judge denied the petition" ( crickets). I responded with frustrations once he had no further answers or steps to move forward. " Ok so what is next"? He said 'I guess we have to wait for the hearing in 2 months". Mind you, my nephews deadbeat parents decided to call kidnapping charges on me and law enforcement after giving me a POA to take care of their child for two years. This child sustained neglect and abuse from them, I was NOT going to let them come and take him. So I had to push Mr, Brooks into giving me the next step. Scott like to act like he is Mr. Calm, cool, and collective by telling you " I'll talk to you tomorrow" when you, as a client are looking for answers. He talks to you like a child, when you are his client paying him thousands of dollars. My husband and I are very concern for this little boy, and we are giving all we have to keep him safe. I lost sleep many nights thanks to Mr. Brooks. My attorney should be fighting for me, I felt as if I was fighting my family and Mr. Brooks. After 1 petition, and his bright idea to amend the petition and resubmit it again to the judge, we receive his bill. For the 2nd time his bill was way over. We spent almost 1800 on an amended petition, which only added 3 more paragraphs to the petition filed initially which cost us 2700.00. He charged me 30.00 for a text messages and 2 sentence emails, he charged me for doing research and it took him 2 weeks to file an EMERGENCY petition AFTER I EDIT IT FOR HOURS. He triple charged me for many items and when I confronted him, he withdrew my case! In the consultation he expressed "my daughters are not mine by blood, but they are mine, so I know exactly how you feel", he comes off like a sincere person, but he isn't, he is a politician. DO NOT HIRE!!!

Dear Ms. Arreola-Perez, Thank you for sharing your feedback. Although we would never publicly discuss a family law matter in a public forum, we’re sorry your experience didn’t match your expectations. Covid has been a very tough time and sometimes the match we expect at a consult is not the ultimate experience. We appreciate that you signed off on the Consent to Withdraw amicably. We respect your opinion and disagree with the facts you allege. We will not break your confidence. Our priority is to always provide a non-judgmental, and welcoming environment for our clients so we may assist them in resolving their legal challenges that often cause great distress and heartache, as quickly as possible. We wish you and your family peace and a speedy resolution.

Changed my life by doing what no other attorney could do!

Even though I worked with and for attorneys for 20+ years, I have never encountered an attorney with such a compassionate demeanor and stellar professionalism. I dealt with an angry narcissistic ex-husband for 15 years that drug me into court every other month to maintain control over every aspect o...f my life, and I depleted my entire savings on attorney's fees with miserable outcomes. Although I knew Scott through mutual local circles, it didn't occur to me to retain his legal services. When I finally retained him this year, he literally gave me my life back with his expertise in relocation. Retaining Scott was the best decision I could have made! His depo and trial skills are completely thorough and beyond compare. Don't let his calm nature fool you...he is an intelligent, seasoned, successful attorney that gets the job done without losing his temper or raising his voice when opposing tries to ruffle his feathers! His office staff never leaves you to think that you are just another number or question the status of your case. I am confident that if I had worked with Scott from the beginning of my legal issues, I would not have wasted so much time and money battling a bitter vindictive ex for years. Scott's passionate commitment and loyalty to his own family shows in his behavior with his clients. He is definitely the attorney you need representing you, not the one to be opposing. I absolutely recommend Scott for any family law matter but his relocation skills are off the charts! Thank you, Scott! I am so happy to be back in my home state with my daughter...and you made that all happen!

Best lawyer ever....and not just a lawyer

Honestly, the best lawyer you can find.I hired Scott for my divorce issues and i can tell from the bottom of my heart that was the best decision of my life.I found him not just like an excellent lawyer but a lot more then that.I found a friend,a person that is doing more then his job,so supportive,so ...open....so dedicated.....so available for my needs.I found him so much involved and so dedicated to my case and that gave me so much confidence.....he’s competence and he’s knowledges are not questionable.....I highly recommend Scott for everybody......the way he fight for my case, the way he put he’s competence and the way he made a complicated case so easy makes me share this experience...More then that,he’s surrounded by great people like Carmen,Arlene,Roberta and everybody hwo is working in that office....so,don’t think twice when you need a great lawyer.
