Not worth the money

This laywer/firm was hired at a very high cost. He (they) claimed they were very knowlegable about handling cases and that they talked daily to prosecutors/judges in order to get the "best bargain" for a client. However, this lawyer/firm kept getting contunuances for the case and never really... did anything to bargain with the prosecutor at all. Finally it came time for a plea bargain and we were not given any options prior to us getting into the court room. Then it was a do or die situation. As such, I feel I made a bad choice but am stuck with the decision now. Also, these layers did not provide important information pertaining to a new amendmant to the law in 2007. Which, if I had known about it at the plea bargain, would have changed my mind about the plea that was made. Basically this lawyer let the prosecutor control the outcome. I have a different lawyer now and for a different case and this lawyer has already talked with the prosecutors and has proposed options for me to consider prior to doing any plea bargaining. Why wasn't this done by these high cost lawyers?

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
