The Wedding is History

O.K. , the party is over, the person you ran down the aisle with- is not there anymore, and now you are looking at divorce. So with everything around you in a state of turmoil, you now find yourself having to find a lawyer. So, maybe you call a couple of friends, or search the internet, and everyt...hing looks the same, with the same answers, and you are even more confused. I was lucky, i found Mercedes. I had been married for 28 years, and could not believe what was happening,. I tried to work it out, but my spouse had "lawyered up". I have some news for you, when that happens- it is over, because in Florida, with its antiquated divorce laws which are in need of serious reform, once the other party has counsel, you better get one, fast. There are times for a professional, and you want someone who can make it happen for you in such troubling times, and i would strongly recommend Mercedes Wechsler. Let me tell you what is going to happen, Florida is a "No Fault State", as you may know, if not, basically you are being fed into a system that is going to put you in a day (or days) of fun with a mediator, and the two attorneys , and your future Ex. "to work it out". And no matter what one person did, or said, it really doesn't matter, the court system wants it resolved here, not in court. So you need someone who can play the game. But the game starts before you go into the room, the communication between the attorneys beforehand, and most importantly the communication between attorney and client. this is where Mercedes earns her keep. First, she returns phone calls, second, she will get to the bottom of your case quickly, and third, she will fight for your case. If you are a man, in Florida, you are going to be paying for everything, chances are even your wife's attorney. And you are going to be looking at some alimony laws written in the 1950's. You better have someone that can play on this stage, because it is all about the money, and how long you are going to be paying it. This is going to be a bigger decision than the one you made when you married her, your attorney , let me save you some time, just call Mercedes. Call her, listen to her, follow her lead, communicate with her on you concerns, and sit back and let her work her magic. She is intelligent, very knowledgeable in her field, pointed in her directives, but also is compassionate in understanding that she is dealing with clients that their marriages have fallen apart. If you are a women looking for an attorney, I sure would not want to be your husband if you choose Mercedes.

Not worth your hard earned money!

If you like to throw your money away, have an attorney quit on you just before trial or call you a bad name, this is the attorney for you. I filed a complaint with the FL Bar, they agreed that she did not act according to their "high" standards, and let her go with a slap on the wrist. I'm disappoi...nted, find someone else, I had to find someone at the last minute to take over.

I do not recognize this person, although I suspect she is using a slightly different name on purpose. If so, the client did not pay and bounced a check to me. The successor attorney in the case achieved a good result based on my work

Great Representation!

Should you have to take a legal action especially in a divorce, everyone always says “Make sure you get good lawyer!”. After a 17 month process that finally ended a very messy divorce I can absolutely validate the need for strong, reputable, and competent legal representation if you are considering ...dissolving your marriage. With that in mind, I can definitively say that retaining Mercedes Wechsler P.A. and her highly professional legal team was one of the best decisions I have made. From the very first meeting at her office, Mercedes outlined for me exactly what to expect from a simple uncontested divorce to a fully contested divorce. She laid out projected costs and potential timelines and provided specifics on what I could expect, providing both best and worst case scenarios. This was based on her numerous years of experience in Florida Family Law. She told me specific things I needed to accomplish immediately and outlined pitfalls that I would most likely face. Upon reflection nearly 2 years later… every single thing she advised me about that day ended up happening. This again can only come from a lawyer with many years of experience. The other thing she told me during the initial meeting was that she was not afraid to go to trial. She was not just a paper lawyer and was willing and able to defend my interest in court if necessary. Unfortunately after a process which included multiple hearings, mediations, and a full divorce trial, I can once again validate that not only do you want a good lawyer, you want a good “Trial Lawyer”. One who comes prepared to court, has a lot of courtroom experience, and one who has previous experience in front of the judges. This was where Mercedes and her legal team really shined. I felt very confident going in that we were fully prepared and as a result, there were no surprises and almost everything Mercedes said would happen is what ended up occurring. She came into court prepared with case law after case law to help defend our position, commanded a strong confident position throughout her arguments, while at the same time knowing when to pick and choose her battles… understanding what the ultimate goal needed to be. This once again can only come with an experienced lawyer and I felt very good after each appearance in court knowing that my attorney not only was very well prepared and able to execute her courtroom strategy effectively, but also because she is well respected in the family law community and in the eyes of the judge. When deciding on which attorney to retain, you also want to ensure that they have a competent legal team (paralegals, office staff, etc.). This is definitely another positive to retaining Mercedes. Throughout my experience with her firm, I can conclusively say that her paralegal Mary and office manager Talley were both extremely professional, thorough, competent, and just as important… very timely. So much of the legal process is time sensitive and Mercedes and her team exhibit a strong sense of urgency to ensure everything got processed quickly and effectively. In summary, I truly hope no one has to go through a messy divorce like I just experienced; however if you do, you absolutely want to ensure you have a great lawyer who can competently and professionally help you to attain your goals and objectives. I can only speak for myself, but I couldn’t imagine having another lawyer representing me throughout this ordeal. It always felt like a team and I always felt confident that my attorney clearly understood my objectives from the very beginning and would help me to achieve my goals. So if you’re looking for an experienced, professional, well-prepared, confident, no-nonsense attorney to represent you who is comfortable in the courtroom in front of a judge, I would highly recommend you reach out to Mercedes Wechsler P.A. and her legal team. Thank you and good luck!

Your best first decision to make-hiring the right lawyer.

In the early stages of my divorce case I realized I needed to change lawyers to a more aggressive advocate. I sought advice from several corporate litigators I knew and Mercedes' name came up repeatedly as the one they had used or other law partners in their office had used. What better referral ...could I get than the attorney that other attorneys used. After scheduling an interview with several attorneys I knew she was the one to move forward with. When talking with a lawyer you often get the feeling that the are elsewhere, thinking of another case, but not with Mercedes. She listened. After hiring her and strategizing on my case we made a game plan. But the important thing to me was that when we disagreed on something she always asked "What do you want me to do?" Most lawyers do what they want to do whether you want them to or not. She understood she worked for me and not the other way around. I appreciated that. She will argue her point with you but in the end you have the ultimate decision on how to proceed. Probably the best recommendation I can give her is she is flexible in her actions. If you need finesse in negotiations or the courtroom she can dance with the best. Alternatively, If you need a junkyard dog to attack and be aggressive there is no one else I would want in my corner protecting and advocating for me. If you are looking at a divorce action, my advice is to put her name at the top of your list for an interview.
