William John Wieland II

William “Billy” J. Wieland II is a third-generation Florida attorney and lifelong Central Floridian with deep family roots in Florida’s legal community. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Judge William “Bill” Wieland, and his father, attorney Glen Wieland, Billy has built his practice around representing individuals and families in personal injury and workers’ compensation cases throughout Florida.

Billy has earned recognition from a number of legal organizations for his work on behalf of injured clients, including selections by Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers, as well as recognition by The National Trial Lawyers. He is also a member of the "Million Dollar" and "Multi-Million Dollar" Advocate Forum. His professional accomplishments reflect a career focused on advocacy, litigation, and helping clients navigate difficult and often life-changing circumstances.

A graduate of Boone High School in Orlando, Billy attended Stetson University in DeLand, Florida, where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration magna cum laude in 2007, with a minor in Business Law. He later attended Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg, graduating cum laude with his Juris Doctor in 2010. While in law school, Billy was a founding member of the Defense Research Institute student chapter and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Stan Strickland of Florida’s Ninth Judicial Circuit, where his work included assisting the court during the high-profile Casey Anthony case.

Billy began his legal career at a large insurance defense firm, representing major insurance carriers and Fortune 500 companies in litigation throughout Florida. That experience gave him an inside understanding of how insurance companies evaluate claims, prepare defenses, and make decisions about injured people’s cases. In 2016, Billy joined Wieland & DeLattre, P.A. to focus his practice on the people on the other side of those claims, injured individuals and their families.

Today, Billy represents clients in a wide range of personal injury matters, including automobile, trucking, motorcycle, bicycle, scooter, and golf-cart crashes; premises liability and slip-and-fall incidents; defective products and equipment; and other cases involving serious injury or wrongful death. Billy has also handled workers’ compensation cases throughout his legal career, giving him more than 15 years of experience in that area of practice.

Billy believes clients deserve direct access to the attorney responsible for their case. He remains personally involved from the first consultation through investigation, litigation, settlement negotiations, and, when necessary, trial. He works to make sure clients understand what is happening in their case, have their questions answered, and know they have an advocate prepared to stand beside them throughout the process.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Billy conducted one of Florida’s early virtual trials in a complex case involving a local teacher with a pre-existing health condition who faced being required to return to the classroom. Billy successfully prevailed on behalf of his client in a case that received significant attention and addressed important workplace issues affecting educators during an unprecedented period.

Billy is also a frequent speaker on issues involving personal injury and workers’ compensation law. He has presented to legal and judicial organizations throughout Florida, including the National Association of Workers’ Compensation Judiciary, the Judge William Wieland American Inn of Court, the Professional Mediation Institute, and the Workers' Compensation Institute. His writing has appeared in publications of The Florida Bar Workers’ Compensation Section, and his legal work and commentary have been featured by CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, CBS News/WKMG, ABC News/WFTV, and NBC News/WESH.

Community service is an important part of Billy’s life. He has served on the Vestry of St. Alban’s Anglican Cathedral, volunteered with the Orange County Teen Court program and at Give Kids the World, and helped support charitable fundraising through the Judge Wieland Memorial Golf Tournament. Billy is a founding member of both the Judge William Wieland American Inn of Court and Lake Eola Civitan and is involved with the Florida Justice Association, Florida Workers’ Advocates, the Downtown Breakfast Group, and the Orange County Bar Association.

When he is not advocating for his clients, Billy enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. Together they enjoy exploring Florida’s parks, natural springs, beaches, lakes, and theme parks, as well as traveling throughout the United States and abroad. Closer to home, Billy values the simple moments with his family, including time with their miniature dachshund, Nutmeg, and the experiences that keep family at the center of his life.

Billy is licensed to practice law throughout the State of Florida and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
